If you can't wear wool, can you wear alpaca?

I cannot stand scratchy fabric. I've tried wearing wool but if any part of it touches me I feel like I want to tear my own skin off. I stick with cotton.

Friends have been wearing some gorgeous fluffy jumpers lately and I AM JEALOUS.
I've seen a jumper on Sezane that I want. The material is described as baby alpaca. How likely is it that I'll be able to cope with it?

Nope and nope again. Not Alpaca not Angora.
I can only wear Cashmere ( darlink)

I bought the most amazing Alpaca scarf. I had to give it away.

Vinted or eBay all the way now.

Even alpaca can be variable, you would really need to touch it to know whether you can tolerate it. It’s generally softer than wool though. I crochet so have tried lots of different fibres, the only wool or animal based yarn that doesn’t make me itchy is merino, cashmere, alpaca or silk, but some of the alpaca yarns can be a bit rough and some of the silks can be a bit stiff and hard.

Alpaca is just the wool of alpacas, the hairs are fine but it's still quite fluffy. If you cannot wear even merino wool or cashmere it's likely to irritate just the same way.

I can if it isn't next to my skin. I have an alpaca beret and my hair stops it from itching me. I have a gorgeous alpaca scarf but I can only wear it when I have a polo neck on..

I ordered an alpaca/viscose blend from Celtic & co in the hope I could tolerate this.

Nope. Straight back (it was a lovely jumper so a real shame).

Maybe I can get a fitted long-sleeved top to put underneath...
Maybe worth a try.
How do my friends wear them and look cool and stylist and not like they wish they were dead, which is how I feel.

Baby alpaca is generally quite a bit silkier than regular alpaca, but also quite a bit more expensive so sometimes I think they mix it with adult alpaca and then you lose the softness.

I have Alpaca socks...fine. Merino mix socks I'm fine with

Wool mix coats irritate my neck so have to wear a scarf next to my skin
