Where to buy really nice glasses?

Hi,

I would like to buy new glasses and sunglasses next year. I will have my eyes tested and then choose new frames. I wouldn't drive without my sunglasses and the arms are getting wobbly now.

Trouble is I would usually get an eye test with Specsavers but their glasses are not really that great. Im after something really stylish to keep for ten years or so. Last time I found some Givenchy sunglasses but the optician made me have an eye test with them even tho I'd only just had one so I'd like to find the frames and test with that place.

Can anyone recommend a place to get nice glasses from please?

I’m after this too. I’m having an eye test at Boots in a couple of hours and plan to take my prescription and shop around a bit. I’ve been looking for a while but I’m not feeling it for any style of frames.

Check out lindberg frames. They are spendy for sure, but incredible frames - super light (I regularly forget I’m wearing them and have to check if I’ve got them on) and very comfortable. Then if you like them, find a specialist independent optometrist who sells them and go to them. I get comments on my glasses all the time - have had them 5 years and have no intention of changing the frames any time soon.

The independent opticians have the nicest frames imo. I had one pair from armani last me about 12 years, just kept getting them re-glazed.

If you can get to Manchester go to seen.co.uk - independent with excellent service and stocks some of the worlds most innovative eyewear designers.

If you're anywhere near Barnsley (S Yorks, not Gloucestershire), The Spectacle Shop has great frames!

My partner was recently very impressed with Cubitts. They make their own glasses, but they are a very good price and he really rated the service. They have several branches up and down the country - none in the Midlands, where we live, so he went to London for them. He is very fussy about glasses, so this is quite the recommendation!

Tom Davies frames are fabulous. Great quality, made in Britain, and they're really comfortable to wear. I'm not local to London, but fortunately my independent optician stocks Tom Davies frames.

You need to go to a private optician who stocks a range of designer frames. You can ask Specsavers for your prescription. Have a look at Face a Face. My optician only stocks one of each style!

Ah this is great, thanks. I knew the ladies here would know where to go. Thank you x

If you get them online how do you find out the distance between the pupils? They didn’t do them, I asked after my eye test today. Would have done if I’d picked a frame, but I didn’t like any.

One good rule for how to measure your pupillary distance is: Measure more than once. Here’s how to do it.

@PiggyPigalle thank you. It seems relatively straightforward with some practice. I don’t know why it didn’t cross my mind that someone else can do it. I’ll have a few tries and ask DH as well, to compare for accuracy.
