Right inspired by my other thread....where to buy trousers for a heavy bottomed pear shape?

OK, some of you may have seen my other thread. It has inspiired me to try and find some trousers that actually fit.

My bum and thighs are a size 18 (or very generous 16). My waist is a 14.

Where can I buy trousers that fit my bum but don't gape at waist?

I saw the monsoon jeans ther other day, but don't really want jeans/don't have money for monsoon.

Hula JeansNew Look.Stretchy fabric so they are comfortable and also come in shorter length if you are not long legged. And £10

AitchTwoCiao · 27/04/2008 22:00

do you have any black mates, SMS? often black women have big bums regardless of waist size etc and i know in this country it can be difficult, so ask them and see what they do.

although As I May Have Mentioned it may be a seamstress who solves your problem.

my sister is this shape.

m&s
dorothy perkins
and yes monsoon.

also skirts, straightish, not as wide as a-line. to be worn with fitted tops and very nice but slightly chunky shoes to balance it all out. and structured handbag.

RainingCatsandDogs · 27/04/2008 22:22

Sorry didn't read about not wanting Jeans. But the hula ones are comfortable.I don't like jeans much either usually because they fall down being narrow waisted and so have to wear a belt.
I am also a real pear (from a family of pears!).Don't really have specific shops I buy in -I just have to try everything on.Gap seems poor for me and M and S hit or miss.Used to find M and S limited collection trousers really good but my local store doesn't stock this range now.Monsoon generous cut.
Go for boot leg.I do look better in longer length trousers with heeled boots/wedges in summer under with a fitted V neck top (to draw attention to decent bust, slim waist) with slightly 'puffed' sleeves.Seems to balance my proportions out.Nice bag helps.
Just bought this in a 10 to go with some lovely cut 14 grey bootcut trousers. On the whole I have to spend more on trousers to get a better cut - ask for gift vouchers for birthday.
I think avoid smock, empire line tops as you need to draw the eye to that small waist!

I am the same shape as you - thugh got a humungous pair of norks that have also appeared from god knows where.

jeans are a total nightmare - they are not a good look for pears anyway

don't waste your time at m&s I think they are the very worst shop for small waists and big hips

great plains is good - french connection tov thrugh pricey

I think a dress maker is they way forward

SlightlyMadSweet · 27/04/2008 23:18

I don't think I do have any black mates, Asian yes but they tend to be very petite.

I just need some direction as to which are the shops I am more likely to get loucky in. Then I might have more patience with clothes shopping, and then I might find it more enjoyable.

I am getting good hints off the other thread for tops and trouser styles. I just need to find some that fit now (preferably without altering if I can)

I have a similar shape and also get problems. I agree that M&S not great! Tops OK but not bottoms. I find Levis jeans good, for trousers french connection, dp not bad. White Stuff usually good, and New Look. River Island can be ok if you find a style you like.

AitchTwoCiao · 27/04/2008 23:33

why are you so resistant to alterations? you are about fifteen different sizes in one wee person, you need to get things altered. accept this, it's the truth, seriously. in this country there aren't enough people with your shape for it to be practical to produce clothes for a mass market.

SlightlyMadSweet · 28/04/2008 17:34

I am not resistent.....it is just hassle and adds to the cost of the clothes.

I will check it out next time I have some clothes for a specific occassion and see how I go.

I can't really get all of my clothes altered - but if I can find a shop to buy from which comes close to my body shape they I will need less altering

i think you'll only need trousers altering, tbh, and its well worth it, not least for the fact that you buy fewer pairs because the ones you have actually fit. seriously, just give it a try...
