Has anyone had cosmetic dentistry?

Has anyone had cosmetic dentistry as in the whole lot?!

I have had a treatment plan for teeth whitening, veneers and implants/bridge and I am debating whether or not to go for it.

I don’t know anyone in real life who has had their teeth ‘fixed’ to this extent so I was wondering if anyone ordinary has had this done. I know it costs a lot of money ie thousands and I am wondering if it was worth it for you. Note: I am not after horsey or Turkey teeth that look false or too big, just a bright and even smile.

Yes. Braces followed by whitening, veneers and composite bonding. Cost almost 12K. Worth every penny.

GetrudeCoppard · 13/11/2024 21:28

Me! I had implants (3 molars on 2), a bridge, whitening and 2 veneers. By my usual dentist. I think it cost £8.5k for everything.

Best thing I ever did. For the first time in my life, I’m not embarrassed about my dingy teeth or big back fillings on show when I laugh. People often say ‘you’re lucky to have such nice teeth’ and are surprised when I tell them it’s thanks to my dentist.

SomeonTookMyAnonymousUserName · 13/11/2024 21:38

I had 6 veneers, whitening, replacing fillings for white ones - cost £8000 - which I paid monthly over a year.
It's changed my life!
I'm so much more confident and, whilst I get compliments on my teeth from time to time, it wasn't a massive 'wow, what have you done?!' They are very natural looking

Yes Invisalign braces, composite bonding and whitening.
worth every penny.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 14/11/2024 00:38

I had two implants, cost £2800. I’m currently almost through the aligner process and will be having some whitening and composite bonding. This is costing £4500.

Lots of positive stories! That is very encouraging.

If the media is anything to go by, virtually every American, ever.

Penguinsmum · 15/11/2024 07:17

I did. Had lumineers/ no prep porcelain veneers. Very pleased and worth the money for me.

Beautiful teeth! Although they looked pretty perfect before!

Stunning beautiful teeth before!

Jemimapuddleduk · 15/11/2024 14:36

My dd has composite bonds on her top 2 teeth, it looks amazing. She will need braces at some point so they will need to be replaced. She had discolouration due to trauma to the adult teeth when she fell and knocked baby teeth as a toddler.

Julianne65 · 15/11/2024 14:47

Watching with interest. Have been quoted £5k for Invisalign to create a space for a missing tooth, and to replace a porcelain veneer which is hiding a deformed peg tooth it will be another £1k!

linelgreen · 15/11/2024 14:59

Due to a gum disease issue I have had all my top teeth replaced by implants best £15k I have spent. I already had a partial bridge which I hated so took the decision to have all upper teeth removed and replaced.

Hyperion100 · 15/11/2024 15:04

Due to an accident - Implants, numerous crowns and composite bonding.

Keep in mind before you embark on any non essential dentistry, it doesnt last forever and will need re-doing numerous times over your lifetime.

Also, don't go to Turkey!!

My dentist said that he is paying his mortgage off by fixing the problems people have with their Turkey teeth.

Can I ask what sort of things you can eat? Like can you bite into an apple with implants?

How careful do you have to be and how careful do you have to be with cleaning? Gums etc?

Hyperion100 · 15/11/2024 19:13

You have to keep implants very clean. Daily flossing and 6 monthly checkups with xrays once a year. They are not without complications but they are tough as old boots. Infinitely better than a bridge.

initially in the healing phase it was soft foods but now I can eat anything including apples!! In terms of maintenance I visit the hygienist as normal every three months then every six months the implantologist removes the teeth from the implants and checks all is still OK. Mine are not individual tooth implants but four implants in my upper jaw that hold the full bridge of teeth if this makes sense. If you Google All on 4 dental implants it will give you a clearer idea. Bear in mind most of the results are from overseas dentists looking for business but the procedure is the same in UK as abroad apart from during the initial weeks I saw the implantologist every three weeks to check all was OK which obviously would not happen with an overseas dentist.

FishPie2 · 16/11/2024 13:08

I had 18 teeth capped at the same time - best money I have every spent. 5 years on they still look good.

TheFlis · 16/11/2024 13:11

I have had the works, two implants, whitening, 4 veneers. As other posters have said, it’s best thing I have ever done. Genuinely life changing in terms of confidence and how I feel about myself.

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 16/11/2024 13:15

Have a mixture of veneers (4) and a bridge, the latter because a brace would not have moved teeth enough to fill a gap (and an implant wasn't suitable due to bone loss). Cost around £8k a decade ago. Best money i ever spent. Despite being at the top front, no-one has even clicked I've had work done. They're also not super scary neon white either. Just very natural, indeed, I often get compliments on my teeth all the time.

Recent check dental check revealed all is still excellent and nothing needs replacing.

ImAnAutum · 16/11/2024 13:21

For those who had implants, especially a full row, when all your teeth were removed, what happened? R u without any teeth for a while? Also pain, what is it like? Everyone in my life thinks I'm just not that funny or don't find things that funny, but really I'm laughing inside, just hate my teeth. Would.love to just throw my head back and laugh without caring. Really thinking about implants but worried about my gum disease.

notmoredirtywashing · 16/11/2024 13:25

I spent nearly 10k on implants that fell out. The dentist tried to charge me again to replace them ( after I'd had my wobbly front teeth out). I've now got a really awful denture that I can't afford to have remade.

Waste of money 😡

Mine are 3 back molars on 2 implants. I had 2 gaps for a year or more, but when the 3rd one broke at the base, I knew I had to do something. I should’ve acted sooner as I lost bone and had to have a bone graft.

There was no pain, but the initial surgery took over 3 hours and I’d advise anyone to steel themselves for it. 3 hours plus is a very long time to have your mouth wide open, and there was a lot of fairly brutal
slicing/hammering/drilling going on. No pain at all, but it requires endurance. If I did it again, I’d wear AirPods and listen to a book.

Not all Turkish teeth are the same! The label is often associated with the bleached colour option that many choose. It does not have to be that way! Also there are good as well as bad clinics. I had found a clinic in the UK that I was very happy with ... for the money. - for all on 4 top and bottom it is £16.5k. I am not especially vain... have very bad teeth and the top does need this work. The bottom set was a 'debate". they are not entirely healthy but would take 2 years to sort with treatment, braces, colour work etc and that would cost me the same as h0aving them pulled and implants... so dentist was happy to do the work. However circumstances have changed slightly and I now need some of the money for something else. All along (about 8yrs) been researching work abroad including india, hungary and Turkey. Finally found a Turkey company I am happy with and will be going there within the month. Cost about £10k including flights. I have researched at length and very happy with my decision. If there are problems I am confident they can be sorted. Also in Uk to keep the guarantee a yearly check up is £360. I can go to Turkey for less than that and have a bit of a holiday.
