Christmas gift skin care for 13 year old

My 13 year old has been using ceravee and La Roche posay products which I bought her. Her skin is bumpy and I think she has https keratosis pilaris. The lovely expensive products I researched have been supplemented by fake drunk elephants dupes from home bargains, purchased when out with her pals. I get it the cerave face wash packaging definitely has a nursing home vibe. Any ideas of good products which would suit her skin I could get her as Xmas treat with less of a granny vibe ? I’ve no idea where to start.

Take her to see her GP

There's a brand called Byoma that my teenage dsd likes she just has a cleanser and moisturiser

LilacLilyBird · 12/11/2024 08:12

If you can afford it visit a private dermatologist

I don’t know much about skincare but the Byoma gift set is my 13 year old’s favourite.

Also I used this for my bumpy skin on my arms it does work but it stings so I would get advice before using on a teenager.

The Ordinary is really good value and teens love it. You can do an online assessment for the right products.

My daughters 13 and she has the following brands for skin care at the moment.

Kiehl’s
Drunk elephant
Bubble
Summer Fridays (but we got this in the USA)

She has had Byoma but it didn’t agree with her skin.

I use The Ordinary and The Inkey List.

She needs a salicylic acid product if she has bumpy skin. Paula’s Choice do a good one.

ParanormalNorman · 12/11/2024 08:36

Inkey List has a great range at reasonable prices and simple black and white packaging so doesn't look 'nursing home'.

Byoma. I don't rate the jelly cleanser but the milky oil is excellent. I bought the whole range on the back of the milky oil and it really impressed my teenage nieces when they saw it in the bathroom. The two blue serums are both really good. The moisturisers are fine-good but I'm old with dry skin so on young skin they would be perfect. It's the best all-rounder range I've ever found and I like the look of all the bright pots in my bathroom.

I like coats hydrating cleanser as my second cleanse but the packaging is not very exciting. Same for ceraveve, much like your daughter I like buying new, exciting stuff but I'm learning after 30 years that I've got to be a bit more discerning and balance function over form!

You say her skin is bumpy, is this on her face? If so, she's taken off her skin barrier so needs to take care. Has she got the la Roche posey b5 balm? It's pretty much a cult product for sorting any skin problems and I don't know anyone who hasn't become an avid repurchaser. It might be enough to combat the random purchases.

If it's bumpy skin on her body, a face wash with salicylic acid or even ordinary glycolic acid if you can trust her to not put it on her face will do it. The byoma yellow body lotion also helps.

Do you have any glam friends who are into skincare? Can they give her the same advice as you except she'll actually listen to them?

Or, if all that doesn't work, can you push her to be a bit more snobby about skincare and maybe Korean k-beauty. Beauty of Joseon is one brand I've heard good things about and looks very stylish

Byoma is cute packaging and popular but ceravee is probably the best anyway.
Maybe get Byoma or laneige lip balms, hand creams etc but stick with ceravee the anti blemish one is really good.

Loooop · 12/11/2024 16:41

Thank you. Looks like byoma very popular. To be clear she just has some bumpy skin on her cheeks. Her father has kp and I read it’s hereditary and worse in adolescence so made a guess that’s what it is. It’s not really very obvious and set seems unconcerned. I decided against salicylic acid as seemed a bit extreme. Just looking for something more fun that won’t aggravate her skin

Luna daily the everywhere exfoliator is £20 at Boots and is for KP.
