Best clothes shopping centre - Midlands/Northwest?

Game0fCrones · 11/11/2024 23:32

Where would you recommend for clothes shopping in the Midlands or Northwest?

I'm over 50 so not interested in Primark, River Island or Hollister, more like Massimo Dutti, Arket, Mango, COS, Me&Em, Uniqlo, Karen Millen, Ralph Lauren, Mint Velvet, Hush, JIGSAW.

I could go to Bluewater but the train takes three and a half hours! 😮

Manchester has above and Harvey Nics and Selfridges

YouOKHun · 11/11/2024 23:58

To be honest @Game0fCrones last time I went to Bluewater it was a shadow of its former self. If you do go to the trouble of travelling south for shopping you'd be better off getting off the train in London and shopping there!

Game0fCrones · 12/11/2024 03:13

That's a shame YouOKHun. It used to be magnificent. What happened? Covid? Work from home?

Thanks Doodlygirl, I think I'll stick with Manchester.

Manchester is the only place in England where you'll find a Uniqlo north of London.

TheKneesOfTheBees · 12/11/2024 05:51

I find nowhere is perfect, so I do mix of Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, Cambridge depending on what I'm looking for, e.g. Birmingham is the only place with Arket outside of London, but no Uniqlo. I also like Toast, which isn't in Manchester or Birmingham, and in Manchester most things are in town but John Lewis for other brands is in the Trafford Centre which is annoying (and small!) - but I agree that Manchester has most things out of anywhere.

DD and I did a day trip across the Pennines just so that we could go to Uniqlo.

It was worth it.

Cheshire Oaks - large outlet centre

Game0fCrones · 12/11/2024 08:52

I never find anything at Cheshire Oaks, it has a real 'back of the stockroom' feel about it to me.

I live 15min drive to Bluewater and 35min train into town (central London). Bluewater does have most on your list and the Uniqlo is great. I'd have to get train and tube to Em+Me as they're all west London so I buy on line from there as I know my size.
I'm in my 50s too and don't enjoy shopping in London anymore at all, there's so much rubbish between the decent stores. Bluewater, I know like the back of my hand (went on its first day opening when my daughter was days old and she's almost 26 now).
I can shop in Bluewater at 8pm in the warm and have dinner before/after/inbetween so I prefer it to London.
I plot my route of chosen stores from the map to avoid walking around the triangle for hours on end!
Clothes shopping in London is tedious now as everything is so spread out. Kings Road /Ken high st was my go to but that's not the same anymore.
I enjoyed shopping in Manchester as it's much more compact!
May I suggest that, if you come to Bluewater, you make it a stay over as there's lots of lovely villages nearby and plenty of hotels/airbnb with an abundance of good places to eat.

MaltipooMama · 12/11/2024 09:38

Birmingham Bullring and Bicester Village each have a few of these, it is so hard though to find one good shopping centre that has everything

There's a huge one in Oxford

There's an Arket in Leeds.

Apologies @notatinydancer.
I still wouldn't class Oxford as Midlands or NW though.

whydoihavetowork · 12/11/2024 23:09

Cheltenham is worth a look and a great day out.

TheKneesOfTheBees · 13/11/2024 05:37

Arket need to update their website then @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads! No, I don't class Oxford as the Midlands either, but I was just pointing out that it's difficult to get everything in one place so I visit different cities depending on priorities.

Don't give up on London clothes shopping just yet! Have a look at the list of retailers at Battersea Power Station - so many of the names mentioned on here and more. Plus it's 15 minutes walk to Sloane Square or a couple of bus stops for Peter Jones and the King's Road. The King's Road has much improved over the past few years.

@TheKneesOfTheBees Liverpool has an Arket.

TheKneesOfTheBees · 13/11/2024 07:39

Arket clearly need to be told where all their stores are 😂

I think the Arket in Liverpool has closed down. Possibly the one in Leeds too?

I stand corrected on Leeds
I walked passed the shop about 10 days ago and it didn't look closed then, but maybe it was, unless it's closed very recently. I didn’t go in.
