Does semi-translucent mascara exist??

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 10/11/2024 19:55

I find normal mascara too dark, heavy & clumpy, and was wondering if there's a lighter semi-translucent kind? I can't seem to find any.

I usually do a layer of clear mascara first to sort of water down the black mascara.

How about brown mascara instead?

Geneticsbunny · 10/11/2024 22:17

You can buy clear mascara. Maybe you could mix a bit of black into it?

Itsmostlygristlecathy · 11/11/2024 09:04

I know what you mean. I don’t like the clumpy look and have always been after one that just makes my eyelashes glossy and defined.

TheLongRider · 11/11/2024 09:24

Avoid mascaras with "Volume" in the description. Look for ones that are described as lengthening, glossy or separating. L'Oréal telescopic mascara, the original one gives great separate but defined lashes. I have a Korean brand, Judydoll Iron curl mascara, it coats lashes with a fine layer of product without clumping.

The 1999 lash tint from Space NK is a very subtle look

BadgersGalore · 11/11/2024 10:06

I stopped wearing mascara for this reason and prefer the subtle look of eyelash tint and lift. I do mine myself with a kit now but have had them done in a salon too. It gives a really nice natural effect I find. Then I just brush them upwards with oil if I want to perk them up.

Ooh thanks, super useful! The Judydoll wand looks interesting.

This doesn't help you, OP, but Clinique used to do a 'Naturally Glossy' mascara that was not at all clumpy, just added a tiny bit of gloss and oomph to your lashes but still left them looking natural.

I mourn it's demise almost daily....

Inspired by this thread I decided to try my Rimmel brow mascara on my eyelashes and it's great! No flaking, minimal smudge, subtle colour.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 12/11/2024 11:31

Wipe the wand with a tissue before applying, or get a tint and use clear mascara.

My sister uses Featherfix brow gel on her eyelashes for a natural but enhances look.

Oh I was going to suggest this! I had it years ago, shame it’s gone.

Have a look at the Lash Beats mascara from elf, that looks very understated

minipie · 12/11/2024 11:37

this discussion on Reddit may be helpful. Lots of recommendations for elf Lash n Roll for a natural look. Also for using a clean mascara wand each time so there’s no build up on it (silicon washable one for example)

CocoDC · 12/11/2024 11:40

You need to replace mascara regularly. Clumping can be a sign it’s too old

A drop of baby oil revives mascara.

The demise of said Naturally Glossy caused me to do a search which brought me to this thread today!

I used it for years, it had no fibres so suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Why on earth did Clinique let this one go?

I don't know! I miss it all the time. It was the perfect everyday, not so dramatic mascara, imo.

I did read recently someone recommend Pixi Beauty Double Brush mascara as an almost identical dupe. Haven't tried it (yet), though.

Hopealong · 18/11/2024 18:07

The Glossier mascara is similar to the Clinique Natural Glossy and is all I ever use now. I hate the clumpy look and with the Glossier one I feel it just enhances my lashes and I don't really know I'm wearing mascara

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 18/11/2024 18:19

I've just bought the Glossier brown lash slick and really like it

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/11/2024 18:24

It used to exist - it was called "barely there" mascara, and No7 made an awesome one in brown black.

But when I asked for something similar in Boots more recently the orange faced girl blinked her heavy black eyelid brushes in confusion.

MrsGlennBulb · 03/12/2024 06:51

Bought the Glossier Lash Slick following recommendations on here. It gives a lovely natural looking finish, no clumping.

Vestibular · 03/12/2024 08:47

Influenced! Thanks for the Glossier tip!

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 09/01/2025 12:18

I've also just bought the Glossier Lash Slick thanks to these recommendations and its exactly what ive been looking for! Not heavy, and i like the brush. Thanks all!
