La Mer

I'm really tempted to try it. Just a little jar. It's nothing fancy though is it? Please talk me out of it. In my mind it smells of delicious seaweed

I use their soft cream, and an eye cream and I love it. Having said that, when I'm in a rush, I also use Nivea soft cream at £4 a pot and I like that too! The La Mer feels really nice to use. I love the consistency and I do think it makes my skin look nice. I don't believe it's crazy claims for its ingredients though and I certainly don't apply it with the little wand.

It comes with a wand! I love a posh fancy wand thing

The wand is just to take it out of the pot instead of using your fingers not for applying

I've used and I loved it

In my life,I’ve only ever found 3 moisturisers that made my skin look lovely, dewy and plump, gave it the perfect level of hydration and crucially, didn’t make it breakout. They are: Eucerin 10% urea cream,Astral and Creme de la Mer (the original creme one). Somewhat of a price difference,so I alternate between them at different times of the year and depending on finances! The La Mer smells gorgeous but nothing like seaweed (I would never use it if it did!), to me it smells sort of like sherbet?
I also love the La Mer face oil, which I was bought as a present a couple of times years ago and again,it works great for me:makes my skin lovely, smells gorgeous and no breakouts but saw the price the other day and good god,I don’t think I’ll ever get that as a present ever again - the price now is insane!🤯😂
If you can afford it,or it can be on your Xmas list,I’d say it’s worth treating yourself at least once to the cream,to try it. I’m not fussed about the miracle broth blurb/claims,I don’t care or buy into that,I just like how it makes my skin go.🤷🏻‍♀️Oh and I don’t use the spatula (I know it’s supposed to be more hygienic but I wash my hands before use anyway.)

Save your money, it's bonkers expensive and makes no difference whatsoever

NCMJ · 11/11/2024 03:52

I once read somewhere that Nivea Soft has all but 3 of the ingredients in la mer.

AlexandraJJ · 11/11/2024 06:24

I’ve tried it, did nothing for me at all other make my skin feel tight and in a dry way not a good way. If you want to splurge I think there are other brands that may be better to invest in.

ChannelFiveDrama · 11/11/2024 06:52

What do you use at the moment?

Happyinarcon · 11/11/2024 07:23

I love the La Mer moisturiser, but I have extremely dry mature skin. I probably wouldn’t splash out on it if I had regular young skin.
The La Mer skin care is the only range I tried that made me keep using it, because I saw notable differences, the main one being that I could start wearing makeup without worrying about primers and stuff under foundation because my skin was well hydrated and there were no dry patches. Your skin still feels lovely and moisturised if you skip a day or two.

You might break out a little when you first start using it, some people stop at that point but I pushed through and it’s now my staple. I believe that someone heavily into skincare could replicate the effects of La Mer with a bunch of different vitamins and acids etc, but I’m lazy and I just want a one and done.

It's not Nivea soft it's the blue Nivea and I think its all but 1 ingredient. I got curious and bought a pot thinking it would probably be too rich for me but have been amazed by it. I slather it on after my tret at night and my skin looks really plump and hydrated. I'll definitely buy again and it was incredibly about £3 for a huge pot. I've used some really expensive moisturisers that were nowhere near as good.

I think creme de la mer is a ridiculous price but if you have the money and you like it, why not

It’s Nivea cream in the blue pot that is supposed to be the la mer dupe.

I’ve used Nivea cream, astral or Nivea soft for decades and for my age I’m not doing too badly with wrinkles etc. I recently tried the revolution dupe of the Charlotte Tilbury cream which works well for me but I’m not keen on the scent.

I’ve wanted to try la mer for ages but budget doesn’t really stretch to it

If you watch any skin care YouTubers you'll hear that they think it's not worth the price.

I don't really trust skin care you tubers they're all just trying to sell stuff through their affiliate links

You can use incidecoder.com to research skincare ingredients and compare potential dupes.

standardduck · 11/11/2024 08:46

I tried it and liked it! But I don't think it's worth the price. I didn't notice any significant skin changes. I would say Elemis marine cream is much better (it's still pricey but much cheaper than La mer).

But I am also all for splurging on skin care as part of self care, so treat yourself and try it out Smile

sausagedogpookie · 11/11/2024 10:57

Just to add to my previous post,I’ve no doubt the ingredients aren’t worth the cost of La mer, that they don’t do stuff other ingredients in other cheaper creams don’t do,that some other creams don’t work better, that it didn’t do anything for some people, that there aren’t more ‘advanced’ creams now, that there aren’t more proven skincare steps/regimes nowadays but…it makes my skin lovely and works for me and that’s all I’m bothered about,so it goes on my Xmas/birthday list. Like a PP,I’m also lazy,so when just a face wash and a moisturiser works (without serums and acids and other add-ins here and there),I happily take the easiest route.
I do agree that unless you have pretty dry skin,it’s probably not going to suit you, though.

BusterGonad · 11/11/2024 12:52

It's an oldie but a goody.
