Shampoo for thick but fine hair

I live in a very hard water area and it badly affects my hair. I can't filter the water at present so looking for recommendations for shampoo/conditioner.

I have straight hair that is very fine and gets static easily (so needs a conditioner) yet is also a lot of it so thick and i get greasy roots easily (so can't use anything too moisturising).

I just want it to be soft and shiny!!

I've just started using Nope shampoo and conditioner bars after hearing great things about it. It's supposed to be good for greasy hair.

'Fine hair' means 'thin' as in not a lot of it, so this idea of fine but thick hair confuses me

No it doesn't. Fine hair means the individual hair strands are fine. You can have fine hair but loads of it so it appears thick.

Fine/coarse is the individual strand. Thick/thin is how much hair you have.

My hair sounds very similar op and I use the Kerastase Genesis range . Smells nice, leaves hair clean and I just use the conditioner sparingly and on the ends. I alternate the shampoo with their nutritive range as although it’s for dry hair does seem to help a bit with the static.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 07/11/2024 06:25

Different now as since menopause my (very fine, very thick) hair is dry, but wash then only condition the ends - if your hair is short you may need to hang upside down a bit to avoid conditioning the roots. Don't dry from wet, it makes it more static /fluffy imo.

Thank you that's helpful. I'll give that a go, although i must say i haven't got on with other kerastase in the past. But im willing to try!

i would suggest a water softener installed in your house. Biggest difference ever!

failing that the Avalon rosemary shampoo and conditioner are perfect for fine hair. weightless and no build up

Can you buy a Brita water filter Brita ? I used to live in Paris (really hard water) but used filtered water for my final rinse and it made a huge difference.

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle No you do not. You have a lot of fine hair. Thick hair refers to the thickness of the hair strand

tallegorical · 07/11/2024 14:58

Each hair: fine versus coarse
Head of hair: thin versus thick

So one can have
Fine, thick hair (me)
Fine, thin hair (my MIL)

Coarse, thick hair (my DM)
Coarse, thin hair (someone somewhere)
