Hairdressers please help me be bright and blonde!!

Hi all, I got my highlights done a few weeks ago but the blonde is so dull, too warm and not very bright.
I really want a lovely bright vanilla blonde.
Is there anything I can do without heading back to the hairdresser's (I do have an appointment at the end of the month but would love something to lift it in the meantime)? I don't use purple shampoos as they end up making my hair grey and purple, is there a toner anyone can recommend to use to do this?

TIA

Were they dull and warm when freshly done or have they become that way over the last few weeks?

Completelyjo · 04/11/2024 15:12

What was your hair like before?
You can’t achieve the same results on all hair types and colours, sometimes it’s about expectations.
It can sometimes take several rounds of highlights to achieve a very light colour.

If it’s your highlights that have dulled down, then this shampoo and conditioner will help. Shampoo

Thanks for the responses! I've always had really bright blonde hair. The past few times my hairdresser (she's new to me as my previous colourist has retired) doesn't hasn't achieved that bright blonde, I don't know why as my hair generally lifts really well as I am naturally fair.
It's almost mousey, if that makes sense.

It was a bit brighter when it was first don't but still not that nice, vanilla blonde I love!

@YorkieTheRabbit thank you I will try this.

Ah ok, well I let her know on my next appointment that this is not the blonde I am 🤣

Feel so dowdy, I got it cut I to a bob too so I feel like I look like a 60 year old Sunday school teacher lol!!

It looks like a mixture of waiting too long between highlights and therefore still a lot of regrows showing at the top and then the toner is much too ashy. An ashy toner makes even very light hair look darker and duller, bright blonde is more golden and light reflecting.

YellowAsteroid · 04/11/2024 20:36

But are you naturally blonde? It looks like your hair is quite dark - the 2nd photo is nearer your natural colour.

Awww bless ya !!
show her the 2 pics side by side as well so she knows the target colour your after and makes sure she understands, before your next appointment I wud book a consultation so your both on the same page , if she not confident I wouldn’t go ahead with appointment! X

I've had this with previous hairdresser not achieving a bright white blonde (like sienna miller sort of colour) it was especially disappointing after I had been on holiday and came out of hairdressers looking more drab than I went in. I went back and explained that it felt dull and drab and she finally increased the strength of the bleach to lift it. This is what I now have (but with different hairdresser)
It costs so much and takes so long that you can't come out looking more dull than when you went in.

I was blonde as a child but you're probably right, naturally this colour is probably closer to my natural colour now (which is why my hair generally lifts quite quickly, not sure what happened this time). I do prefer to be bright blonde I must admit, not a fan of this at all!

I will ask her to swerve the ash toner, what colour should I ask for to get this bright vanilla blonde back?

This exactly, I spent so much time and money getting what I feel is my mousey natural colour.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone, I appreciate it. Looks like I'll have to wait for my appointment and just make it clear what I want!!

Just wanted to add as well
Toners are for correcting underlying exposed tones when the hair has been lifted it always exposes warmth so we use those to correct but also use for the target shade so she may need to use ash to correct underlying warmth but if your after bright we would add golds and neutrals for target shades ! If the hair hasn’t been lifted enough the more ash is used hense it can look dark and drab !
gold reflects light so always looks brighter x
