Deep forehead wrinkles

livingonhomemadesoup · 02/11/2024 22:24

I'm in my early 50s, have reasonable skin which I've always taken care off, spf, moisturiser, night cream etc but I have developed really deep wrinkles on my forehead (probably too much scowling over the years 🤣).
Tried REN night cream and no7 damage repair but not much improvement with either. Any recommendations please? Not expecting miracles but some improvement would be welcome.
Also wondering if I need to be using retinol too.

Your best bet is probably tretinoin and/or a fringe (this is what I am doing - I am 10 years younger than you but have spent lot of time raising my eyebrows!). I am not personally interested in botox, but I know many do go down this route.

I get my tret from skin&me.

Botox

The only thing that will get rid of deep wrinkles is botox. I have it a couple of times a year, as like.you, I also have pretty good skin, but just looked.cross all the time with deep wrinkles on my forehead and a.furrow in my brow. It has made a massive difference and also reduced some.ofnthe tension I was holding in my face which caused headaches. I also use prescription tretinoin with an spf 50. Chatting with a couple of dermatologist friends, this seems like the best way if you want a more proactive approach with your skin.

livingonhomemadesoup · 03/11/2024 09:53

Really don't want to go down the Botox route (or fringe) to be honest. Have some retinol that's never been opened so will try that for starters.

Creams don't help! I know, I wasted £100s before taking the Botox option. It stands to reason as the wrinkles are caused by your muscles moving especially in the forehead.

I'm your age. Everyone thinks I've had botox.

I honestly don't get angry. Ever

Also. Use tretinoin.

Show me your forehead.

I reckon it's not as bad as you think it is.

Lentilweaver · 03/11/2024 11:24

I am your age..I use prescription Tret. Retinol is useless. Began for acne and then continued. No wrinkles at all.

theemmadilemma · 03/11/2024 13:22

I don't know why but FB keeps recommending me this group. It's also the reason I definitely won't be using Botox. 🤣

I remember seeing that - she did say that she was still going to continue using it, even after it did that to her!

I’ve actually got an album of bad botox saved on my phone and I look at it every time I’m tempted. I worry about the muscles atrophying because they are not used - that is what happens to the other muscles in your body, so can’t imagine it is any different for your facial muscles.

Edited to add that I am not anti cosmetic surgery - I’ve had a breast reduction and would consider a facelift/browlift - but botox gives me the heebie jeebies.

@livingonhomemadesoup I've rustled up another collage of my forehead, left half is beginning September (just before starting) and the right half is today. I'm actually really happy with the progress!

If you're interested in giving it a go, you could use this link: https://www.skinandme.com/?promocode=MARYL5V9N

It gets you the first and fifth month of "daily doser" for £3.50, and I would get a discount on my next order.

I feel slightly embarrassed at sounding like a grifter 😆, but I'm genuinely evangelic about it! It's literally the only face cream/serum/potion that's ever made any difference to me.

And just to add, there are plenty of posters who recommend just ordering tretinoin from an online prescriber. You can get a tube of the stuff at a much stronger percentage for much cheaper. But it's really really powerful stuff, and I've decided to stick with the more gradual introduction for now. And the stuff I get is also combined with niacinamide and azelaic acid... No idea if those ingredients are extra beneficial, but I'm not wanting to rock the boat!

Well then you will just have to accept the wrinkles because only Botox will get rid of them. No topicals will get rid of them, improve the skin texture yes, eradicate, no.

BookishType · 03/11/2024 20:30

Nothing apart from Botox will remove those deep lines. I have Botox once a year and have no lines whatsoever on my forehead.

user1496146479 · 03/11/2024 20:49

Can Botox undo the lines? Or do you need to get it before the wrinkles appear?

bryceQ · 03/11/2024 21:38

If you don't want botox then Tret is best bet.

I like Dermatica but any of the providers will do, I've been a customer for 5 years. Also keeping skin hydrated, drinking water etc can improve skin texture

Code if anyone wants (full transparency I get a discount too but I am a genuine customer)

Try personalised skincare for just £2.90, plus £10 off your next month.

Head to www.dermatica.co.uk and checkout with code Y2K0NE

It " undoes" them, in my case, completely. Also prevents more forming. If you stop you'll eventually get the lines that were there back but no new ones and not worse than before.

I am never getting Botox. I have watched so many in the public eye ruin their faces. It's the same with filler, in MRI scans it shows that it never disolves, only collects more water and it migrates.

Botox has made so many look ugly. There is a 30 year old influencer who has ruined her muscles and all around her mouth which wasn't great to start with (crescent moon shape profile) and her muscles have stopped working so she looks about 60 with jowls.

I can understand why Khloe Kardashian got some for her cancer scar, otherwise I would not get any.

MsRosewater · 03/11/2024 21:54

botox botox botox botox!!!!

I'm 45 and have an 'expressive' face +++. Was vvv anti-botox on principle but having spent ££££ on serums and weird massage etc etc
capitulated it's THE ONLY thing that made any difference... but what a difference!!

If you do it , see a real hcpc! Is 100% worth it for the skill, subtlety and outcome

SpoonHeader · 03/11/2024 22:16

I don't understand how collagen is supposed to work if you consume or rub it in? If anything it makes the tissue harder and the wrinkles more ingrained?

I’m with you. I really think it is a short term fix that will cause more problems further down the line. Use it or lose it is a bit of a soundbite, but it is accurate - if you don’t use your muscles then they become weaker and atrophy.

jenmagiciansgirl · 12/01/2025 00:59

I'm older 65 so I'm guessing having never had Botox that I am too old for it? It's the same for me, really deep forehead wrinkles. Any advice welcome 😉
