Buy less buy better… starting from the basics

I’m moving house soon and am planning to use it as an opportunity to streamline my wardrobe (and life). Over the years I’ve bought so many cheap, poor quality things and now feel like I’m drowning in stuff.
My plan is to get rid of all the rubbish and slowly buy fewer, better quality items - hopefully ending up with a smaller wardrobe of things I love.
This will be a long term project and I’m starting with underwear/basics. I’m sorted for bras but does anyone have any recommendations for good quality knickers, socks, camisoles and T-shirts?

I don’t think any high street brand consistently produces decent quality clothes any more. You can find stuff that’s ok but it’s hit and miss and hugely variable season to season.

Building a quality wardrobe will require going into lots of shops and assessing the fabric and finishing in person, or ordering loads and being prepared to return most of it.

It’s a few years old now but the op of this thread did similar so might be worth a look. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/3797652-thanks-to-s-b-i-m-finally-winning-in-the-pursuit-of-elegance
I only own 1 t shirt but I got a white t shirt from H&M that’s 100% cotton for around £6 and I’m very impressed with the quality. It hasn’t lost its shape in the wash and isn’t see through

Uniqlo socks and tees are the most reliable I think. I have my eye on Ivy T-shirts (online only though).

I found it very much depends on your requirements. I prefer cotton fabric plus black and white don’t suit me plus I’m mindful of budget.
All these narrow down significantly my options.

I found that M&S has good quality basics not ever lasting though 🙂

Have a look at the website www.buymeonce.co.uk/
They have some recommendations for women's clothing

Thanks all. I’ll have a read through all the links, they look really helpful.
I agree the best way is to go into shops and feel the quality, try on fits so am planning to do that as much as possible.

When I was younger and had much more disposable income I would buy Hanro underwear. Nothing like it. I expect it is still expensive, I can't justify it now.
