Do you give your hair dresser a gift at Christmas?

I'm in the UK and have been going to my hair dresser for years, she works out of her home. I've never given her a gift but now thinking maybe I should as we've got to know each other really well

No.

I’m planning on taking in treats for the whole team - probably a couple of bottles of Prosecco and some choccies. I just found them before Xmas last year and think they’re all ace - I always have a good giggle and there’s a real sense of camaraderie between them which can be rare at hairdressers. Plus all the clients end up nattering to each other. It’s like going for a lovely coffee out with friends but I get my greys covered at the same time.

I do. I normally give her one of the M&S light up tins of biscuits and then a nice bottle of something.

She’s such good value (£25 for an excellent cut and blow dry).

My hairdresser is not the owner of the salon so l always tip but give a much better tip at Christmas and also the person who washes. Never a present in all the years.

Yes, I drop off a bottle of Champagne the week or two before Christmas as he told me he likes Champagne.

I’ve stopped buying gifts - I put some money in a card. I do the some for gardeners, window cleaner and cleaner.

I only get my hair cut once or twice a year, so I don't give any gifts to my hairdresser (I don't always go to the same one either).

My mother gets her hair cut every 6 weeks, and I think she gives her hairdresser a christmas gift. I know that she gave her something when she (the hairdresser) had a baby.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 01/11/2024 22:04

Yes, nothing crazy though. Wine & choc. I only go twice a year.

Hmm I'm not sure. I don't tip either my hairdresser nor my beautician (both owners) so I thought last year instead of all the tips I don't give 🤣 I'd buy them each a bottle of something nice from marks. My hairdresser was a weird one...it was christmas, the salon was rammed, I met her partner, her husband at the reception desk, explained oh i bought a little something...and he just took it, rammed it under the desk and I've never heard a thanks or even anything about it ever again!! On the other hand my beautician was delighted!
I don't go to my hairdresser anymore so irrelevant, but if I did, I wouldn't do it again. I'm going to buy my beautician something, again just a bottle of something nice. I think if you really want to, why not?

It would never occur to me, and nowadays I feel pretty much robbed coming out of the hairdressers; £65 for a cut and blow dry that takes 45 minutes max!

Well yes this is my issue too. My beautician is very reasonable so really maybe I should tip her but I just think repeat business (for both her and my hairdresser) is so much more important than the tip. Hairdresser prices are wild where I live (central london) and I quite agree that really the prices put you off giving anything!

SisterAgatha · 02/11/2024 00:00

No I don’t see her enough, as I only go three times a year, but if I am getting my hair done in December I give her an extra big tip

Exactly. I used to tip a few quid years ago when hair cuts were reasonably priced. They're always at least £50 now, I just don't have all this money to tip them as well!

imastrangerheremyself · 02/11/2024 02:30

I go every 8 weeks and give her a gift at Christmas. I spend about 20. I also tip her on each visit.
