Moisturiser to use with tretinoin

Any advice on a nice thick one.

I've been using eucerin (one in the big pot) but suddenly realised it contains AHA.

People seem to rave about the la Roche posay ciclablast. Has anyone tried it?

Is it worth it or would Epimax/Epiderm do just as well?

Skin is really dry because of the Tret and I do layer a moisturiser with a facial oil as well but just wanted others thoughts before I end up ordering the wrong thing, again!!!

I like the old-fashioned Nivea. My skin has always been dry but worse now with Tret. The Nivea one is so occlusive

twiddlingthumbs69 · 01/11/2024 19:43

Ah yes! Of course. The one I always overlook or forget about. Thank you

Second Nivea Creme (the blue tub) It cleared my peeling dry skin after one use ! I only use it at night, after the tretinoin. It's amazing !

Bloom15 · 01/11/2024 20:11

Oh yes has to be the blue tub. The smell takes me back to a child with my mum wearing it

bryceQ · 01/11/2024 22:29

Illiyoon Ceramide
La Roche - the blue one
Tallow from fierce nature
Intensive cream by Dr Sam

Then thin layer of vaseline.

These are my tried and tested to go with Tret and dry skin.

I've been using a medic8 one especially for use after a retinol but if I put it on too soon after the tret it's stings. My best experience was simple moisturising lotion.

SunnyHelper · 02/11/2024 03:00

I'd recommend Purito Deep Sea Water Cream for something hydrating but simple enough ingredients that it doesn't sting.

Or Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Cream when you want something a bit more intensive.

Also it's worth noting that if your skin is getting extra dry or irritated when using Tret, using an occlusive such as an oil or vaseline on top of your moisturiser has been known to increase irritation. Is great for using on the nights off tret though :)

Nivea blue tub, Astral blue tub or Wellida Skin Food. All great rich creams!

sunshinechaser · 02/11/2024 08:42

I'm on a great Facebook group for tret users and they recommend most Korean skincare. Some nighttime moisturisers that always get recommended are Illyoon Ato Ceramide concentrate and Purito Dermide relief barrier cream.
Both of these are lovely and thick and stop any peeling.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 02/11/2024 09:40

@TheDeepLemonHelper thank you. The stinging when I put moisturiser on after Tret is worse than the Tret itself. I was wondering if the moisturiser is actually reactivating the Tret.
Thought I was using the right thing. Eucerin intensive repair then suddenly realised it has lactic acid in it.
I'll give your suggestion a go if you found that worked for you.
I'm 4 months in on 1% Tret and seeing good results so really don't want to drop the % on that.
All trial and error I suppose

I use Nivea night cream, I also use a serum with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera before tret and it's feels lovely, I rarely get tret stings.

YesItsMe44 · 02/11/2024 10:03

It is trial and error. For awhile my skin was very very dry with flaking, which was the opposite before using the tretinon. I had very oily skin and cystic acne. I put the tretinon on while my face is damp. When it's dry and flaky I use Nivea or Mary Kay emollient cream that's part of their Satin Hands set. I was desperate and it did so well on my ezcema I thoughtwhy not. It worked. With winter coming on I'm mainly using CereVe renewing oil at night and their basic daytime moisturizer with sunscreen. I use the tretinon on my neck and decolletage, it's making a noticeable difference.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 02/11/2024 10:22

@YesItsMe44 the thing that's putting me off Nivea blue is that it contains alcohol.
Having said that, loads of you have said it's good.
I'm off to Boots shortly, think I'll need a basket for all the creams I'm getting! 🤣

OP posts:
twiddlingthumbs69 · 02/11/2024 10:24

@YesItsMe44 sorry, just double checked. It doesn't contain alcohol in a drying form. I'm getting bogged down in ingredients now! 🙆‍♀️

I had the same issue and after research bought a ceramide based one.
I use Cerave, although revolution do a slightly cheaper dupe which is just as good.

TrtseHkpr · 02/11/2024 10:28

The Inkey List bio active ceramide repairing and plumping moisturiser is great with tret. I get mine on Amazon, it's unscented and very soothing

if your face is stinging, you have a compromised skin barrier, I would go for the illiyoon ceramide cream which is non scented not the nivea one in this case.

Fraaahnces · 02/11/2024 14:14

Cerave Healing Ointment (like Vaseline with Ceramides) is lush with Tret

AJlooksamazing · 02/11/2024 15:19

LA ROCHE POSAY EFFACLAR H ISO-BIOME MOISTURISING CREAM FOR SENSITIVE, BLEMISH PRONE SKIN 40ML

This is specifically for use after drying acne treatments, it even mentions oral isotretinoin on the package. I used it when my skin was peeling off after starting Adapalene, it's very soothing. It's like putting water on your face, doesn't sting , not a thick oily cream. GP reccomended it.

£20 which I think is worth it for not having your face feel like it's in fire and lasts a decent amount of time.

@TheDeepLemonHelper I've bought the Avene one and just used it. My god! It's brilliant. No stinging whatsoever.
Good tip on warming it. It was ok when I used it but definitely worth knowing that! X
