Recommended foundations - Over 50s

I'd be grateful for any recommendations for foundations, especially ones which give you a bit of a glow.

My all-time favourite was one called Lucidity, by Estee Lauder, which I used daily, topped up with a sweep of the translucent powder from the same range.

They stopped making Lucidity some time ago and I've just used random foundations since.

Any thoughts on great foundations for over 50s, especially ones with a dash of luminosity, will be most welcome!

I am of that age and just got some Laura Geller Baked something, it is a powder but defied my cynicism by being anything but chalky looking. It feels creamy on and looks... lustrous? It is quite sheer but can be built up, I am using it fairly thinly over a colour corrector (bit of rosacea) and concealer (dark under eyes) and feel my skin has never looked better.

I’ve just discovered Sweed Glass Skin Foundation. I was finding my usual matt foundation wasn’t doing me any favours as I get older and I wanted a glow. Sweed is lovely.

@TheRealCannyFraddock

Thank you, I will check both of these out, I'd not heard of those brands before!

I've swapped from EL Futurist to the much lighter Hourglass Veil Skin Tint. It's pricey but my skin is now quite dry in patches and it's been the only thing that hasn't highlighted the dryness.

The Bourjois healthy mix is a good cheaper option.

Since Chanel discontinued Vitalumiere I haven’t got a higher price foundation yet but I have tried the Chanel replacements. Just not committed myself.

Bourjois poudre de riz de Java is a good glowy powder for over foundation.

I'm early 50's and use No.7 protect and perfect advanced all in one foundation. If they still do them, I'd really recommend booking a no 7 in store derma scan thing.

Villagetoraiseachild · 01/11/2024 18:32

Also using No 7. Does the job and includes Spf.

StillCreatingAName · 01/11/2024 18:33

No7 lift and luminate and Hydraluminous range is all good (ensure you bypass the no7 menopause range 🙄 when browsing, I’m not even sure the Boots staff are comfortable promoting it) I second the hourglass one too. Tinted BBs and CCs are also good for a non full foundation day.

That’s one I’ll be looking at. Does it oxidise?

Second this. I tried it for the first time the other day and was really impressed.

I use YSL Touché Eclat foundation. Boots have it reduced to £19.75 from £40 so I stocked up today.

StormingNorman · 01/11/2024 19:05

Second the Hourglass Skin Tint. Particularly over the Elf Vitamin C Primer Putty. So glowy.

usernother · 01/11/2024 19:39

Clinique Even Better Glow Light Reflecting make up. It's lovely.

Mytholmroyd · 01/11/2024 19:43

I have started mixing my liquid foundation with moisturiser in my palm first as I find it goes on much more evenly and looks more 'dewey'

I can highly recommend the Feira under eye concealer - best I have ever tried - use it everyday even when not wearing foundation.

Doesn’t appear to.

I'm in same boat & have just bought on the recommendation of a fabulous older make up artist on insta ericataylor2347

Elizabeth Arden ceramide lift - it's life changing. I was a firm estee Lauder double wear woman. And did not think myself old enough for Elizabeth Arden. But life had loads of compliments recently

She's so likeable and her tutorials are fantastic and easy to follow & she's in her late 40s herself
Look her up !

TossedSaladandSE · 02/11/2024 02:59

I use Boots No 7 Stay perfect foundation which works for me

I used to always buy high end like Lancôme but tried Boots and it's consistency and colour suits me well. Really well actually

I apply a serum then my moisturiser and wait at least 5 minutes before then applying it

I did try Boots No 7 Hydraluminous foundation which I really liked but it started to slide of my face to soon and just wasn't applying well either. Probably menopause skin I don't know it was fine then suddenly very much not doing its job

learieonthewildmoor · 02/11/2024 03:05

Laura Mercier Real Flawless Perfecting foundation. It’s absolutely beautiful. Can be light coverage or built up. Comes in pink, yellow and neutral tones; from super light to dark. Glowy and long wearing, but comfortable and light.
The tinted moisturiser is also excellent.
My only complaint about it is the super long name.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 02/11/2024 03:18

I recently bought Lumene CC cream, and I'm pleased with the results. Evens out my sun damaged 50 year old skin and is quite dewy. Feels lovely and light, too.
Boots often have it in their £10 Tuesday promotion, so worth a punt.
