What shoes with this party dress?

I am having a big Christmas party for our friends and the friends of all our 20s kids so multi-generational and likely to go on into the night (bar, dance floor, dj etc). I have bought this dress which I love. Struggling with shoes. My tolerance for heels is limited since covid but not do I want flats as I think I need the help a heel can give me.

I assume black - but would you choose a kitten heel suede pump or something with a medium block for comfort (not very party) or I have seen a strappy square block heel which might work but exposes a lot of the feet for December…. Help please!

I just love the green ones with the slight platform. They don’t look uncomfortable either.

The Esska shoes look vertiginous and clumpy, but on, they are neither. I can’t walk or cope with standard high heels, but I could walk miles and dance for hours in these.

They look do stunning, I guarantee that loads of women will come up to you and say ‘I LOVE your shoes!’. This happened to me at a wedding recently.

Gorgeous dress too.

Ok @BookishType youve convinced me! Have ordered the hold and will try them on. Thanks very much all you esska fans, I’ve never heard of the brand!

Hmmph! For a long evening / night where you’re hosting, so can afford to look a little relaxed, I’d probably choose a flatform sandal. The kind of thing

Marni

or

Nodaleto

do really well. Obviously findable from other brands for less.

Great dress, btw.

(Net-a-Porter is so boringly US-style conservative in their footwear styling. That dress is clearly not made for any type of court shoe or pointy heel. It’s meant to look louche and relaxed and luxurious - something for the woman wearing it to enjoy, not uptight and ingratiatingly designed for the male gaze.)

Delphigirl · 01/11/2024 13:43

@BetsyRegards i had some cow print pony skin Marnie clogs in 2000 when pregnant with DS2. Went to a refresher antenatal class and Lucinda chambers was there also heavily pregnant IN THE SAME CLOGS! Was so impressed with myself 🤣
I can totally see what you mean and agree re the type of dress. The shoes in the net a p photo do look totally wrong and I can see that so might the velvet ones I bought. Hmmmm. Thanks for your input which has given me good for thought. I will ponder and update!

It's so weird isn't it? The dress is giving Talitha Getty, the shoes are "underpaid public prosecutor".

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 01/11/2024 13:53

Love the ones you have ordered.
As an aside, Esska shoes have a place in every wardrobe, they are unbelievably comfortable. Highly recommend picking up a pair.

Delphigirl · 01/11/2024 13:57

🤣🤣🤣 @MemphisBluesAgain . When I bought the dress I was getting early nana mouskouri vibes but Talitha Getty is so much better!
maybe I should just be barefoot or in a pair of Moroccan slippers!

Wow, @Delphigirl!

(So did you call your son Lucien? Can’t think of a male version of Marni.)

Moroccan slippers would be lush.

Delphigirl · 01/11/2024 14:00

I’m afraid not. But he is a totally bohemian and louchely stylish man now, so maybe he picked up on the vibe 🤣
