Hi everyone,

I'm at a loss with my hair. My hairdresser says I've not got split ends. I wash twice a week and use no heat on it. However, the top half of my hair is different lengths and I have a shelf like ridge amongst the top section of my hair. My hair feels dry like straw 1-2 days before washing and gets knoty. Currently I have a lot of hair loss when washing and several stands falls out at the root when barely touched every time! My hair is getting thinner and thinner and sooooo frizzy. My hairdresser describes the top section as a different texture to the underneath nearer around my neck, which is fairly straight (generally I have slightly wavy hair which is very fine but a fair amount).

I always used head n shoulders with no problem with very healthy hair. I had my child 2.5 years ago while pregnant I use faith in nature as I got much more oily when pregnant. After child was born faith in nature started making my hair dry and unmanageable (I did have a lot of hair loss after child was born for about a year.). So went back to Head n Shoulders, however they changed the formula and made my hair a little dry with scalp build up and a little more hair loss during washing than other shampoos. I've been on the hunt for a new shampoo since. I've spent so much and the same out come with them all. I've tried SLS free etc... they are just far to drying for my hair they always have been, and they give me a crazy amount of sebum and itchy scalp and I am not using too much and I am washing out thoroughly. I prefer sulphate shampoos. I've also tried redken and Kerastase but they cause sebum on scalp and make it itch.

I finally found a shampoo that balances my scalp and makes my hair feel like my hair again (however still feels a little dry 1-2 days before washing) which is Head shoulders Itchy Scalp. However, I'm getting more hair loss in the shower and I just keeps falling out I barely touch it and several come out every single time, hair brush getting full quickly. I just don't know what to do for use. It looks so horrendous with the different lengths and short hairs curling and looking frizzy.

We cant afford really expensive products. But I've tried olapex and my hair got worse, this was a 1.5 years ago I tried it made my hair fall out like crazy. I don't believe it needs protein. I've also tried pre oiling but you have to double wash and my hair is too dry to handle it being washing twice. Ive also tried apple cider vinegar a couple times as we have very hard water. Not sure if it helps.

I did have a surgical missed miscarriage in march. And feel I may have an hormonal imbalance which probably isn't helping.

Can anyone help or suggest anything please?

Apologies for the essay!!!

Thanks guys

Head and shoulders is good for your scalp as if there's any inflammation it will help. Your hair loss is probably caused by your vitamin d or iron levels though, im currently going through the same, I'd buy some iron tablets and vitamin D. Sorry for your loss too xx

You poor thing - hair loss is so distressing. From my own experience I would go to the GP & ask for a blood test to check ferritin levels. If it's under 70/80 or so I would try to get your levels up. New hair growth needs ferritin levels to be above that region from what my dermatologist told me when I had hair loss. The reference range for normal ferritin levels which the NHS uses is however ridiculously low.

Anyway, it may not be ferritin related but it's one thing to investigate.

Second going to your GP. I lost loads of hair when my ferritin was low. Also when I tried a new medication.
I found the L’Oréal fibrology in the blue bottles helped me regain some hair when I lost it. My hairdresser commented on the improvement.

I’ve suffered too with hair loss so i sympathise .
shampoo will not make any difference to it though some will help with the way it looks

I recommend looking into iron and vitamin d supplements - as pp said you want your ferritin to be over 80 ideally but it’s quite a slog to get there. Mine has gone from 40 to 55 since January but together with the vit d supplements I feel it is helping

in also think in your case it might be affected by your missed miscarriage. I had babies but lost a ton of hair loss around 4-10
months after having them.

I had severe hormonal hair loss due to menopause and got a weave last January, best think ever. I tried everything for a couple of years before making this choice

Underactive thyroid is another thing that causes hair loss. It's easy to check with a blood test.

Modern organic products-mixed greens shampoo and mixed greens conditioner expensive but best shampoo for this hair type

also see GP get bloods, maybe thyroid, maybe need referral to endocrinologist good luck xx
