Yellow tinge to grey hair - temporary dye?

Hiya, as in the title, my hair has a yellow tinge to it. I think I remember reading before that that can happen in hard water areas. I never blow dry it and straighten it once a week if that so I don't think it's heat damage. I don't get on with silver-brightening shampoos. I find they give my hair a purple tinge. I was thinking about getting a temporary hair dye. Has anyone tried this? Would it work?

Hm. You could use Wella Fresh Mask toner. The silver shade. Its definitely not purpleish. It lasts a couple of weeks.

I get my hair toned every few weeks. That gets rid of the yellow and is not to expensive.

Thanks for your replies. The Wella toner has mixed reviews on Amazon, but thank you. I can't afford to go to the hairdressers for a toner, I stopped dying my hair because of the cost really! Perhaps I'll try the purple shampoo again.

Colour Wow Dream Filter apparently tackles this problem - I've just ordered some myself.

Thank you Eno! At that price for a small bottle it's worth a try.

My hair had this. I thought it was old dye not yet grown out but I then traced it back to my heated tongs.

Grey/Silver hair shows scorch marks way more than hair with a colour.

I never use my tongs hotter than 140 degrees now and I use a heat protect spray.

No more yellow tinge - and my hair is proper silver / white too.

Even if you are only straightening once a week - is it really hot - over 180 degrees? GHDs are standard 220 degrees I think?

Oh, I didn’t know this! My lovely silver hair has a very yellow tinge on my fringe.😀
I hate it! But I run the straighteners over my fringe every am…at 230! It is probably scorched. I’ll use cool air hairdryer instead, thanks!

I use a purple shampoo but dilute it 50/50 with a non purple one. I also am careful what products I use after I used a thickening spray that turned my white hair yellow! When I emptied some of it out into a glass, the actual product was yellow.

I use Shrine Drops (silver) you can buy it from Boots and Superdrug.
There's a 1/3 off on Boots at the moment £8.66 instead of £12.99, it's free delivery to store if you order online and it comes next day.
You need to mix it with silicone free conditioner but you don't need an expensive silicone free conditioner, just a cheap one, I also use a clarifying shampoo before using the drops.
They also do other colours.
My hairdresser recommended it.
Worth a try for that price
