Treatment for itchy scalp

Every year around this time, when the central heating starts to be used, my scalp gets itchy and hair starts falling out. I have tried using decent quality shampoo and conditioner for sensitive scalp but there has been no improvement.

Can anybody recommend a product which might help. I have very fine and thin hair which tends to get greasy so I wash it every other day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've just ordered nope shampoo and conditioner bars. I've heard amazing things about them. They're supposed to be good for scalp health and greasy hair.

Bodyshop ginger shampoo helped me for quite a while but I think your body adapts to stuff as not as good now 🙄

When my scalp is really dry I massage it with olive oil before I shampoo.

I have exactly the same issue. Boots used to do a range of itchy scalp shampoo and conditioner which worked really well but they were always stopping it and finally removed it for good a few years back. Since then I use the Body Shop Ginger shampoo but it’s not as good.

Thanks for the responses. I see that Head and Shoulders do a scalp cream which you are supposed to leave in but with my hair tending towards being greasy and being so pathetically thin and weedy I think that might look awful.

I would just love to get rid of the itching sensation when the hairs fall out.

I've just typed "itchy scalp" into the search bar of my Lush app and they do quite a few treatments. I've got Renee's Shea Soufflé, but I notice that's for curly hair. I try to keep the pot handy so I can surreptitiously rub some onto my scalp when it starts to itch. I guess if you wash your hair every other day, you could apply one of the other ones to your whole scalp a few hours before washing your hair.

My mum and sister gets this. They like a shampoo called Pharmbanner Folliculitis Shampoo. They get it from Amazon and it costs about £20, so not cheap but seems to work for them.

DH uses this and the Scalp Tonic in the same range. Although PK recommend daily use, he only shampoos one or twice a week and uses the Scalp Tonic as needed - this usually means for a few days running every few weeks. This completely sorts the problem.

The products are fairly expensive but his total investment is about £60/yr I think because a little goes a long way. As a bonus, at a relatively advanced age he has his best hair ever.

It is amusing because between times he uses whatever is cheap at the supermarket or chemist, for not only his hair but the rest of his grooming. But he really, really rates his PK. (Also the conditioner they usually throw in gratis)

As it is mostly heating and dry air that is causing the irritation I suspect the scalp needs moisture so would recommend using a scalp serum. I use a Kerastase one but there are plenty of high street priced options available.
Once a week I also use a scalp scrub, Umberto Giannini do one which is really nice, and helps remove build up of hair products and oil and dry skin etc.

Very much appreciate all the answers. I will try a serum as well as some of the other ideas.

Edited to add that I have just had a look on Amazon and there seem to be a lot of Kerastase ones to choose from. Any idea which would be the best for me?

I buy this for my DS , he really likes it , smells lovely like apples.
Expensive yes but lasts ages

PK was a trichologist.

I get the same at this time of year. T/Gel shampoo works for me but I don't like the smell of it so I use it for the first wash and use my regular shampoo and conditioner after.
