Bought some Hobbs trousers - scratchy fabric - what to do

I seem to be having a bad run shopping wise.

I was desperate to find some petite work trousers that were not polyester. Was excited to find some wool blend ones in Hobbs. I tried them on of course and they seemed ok. The fabric seemed a bit rough but I thought I was over thinking it.

I wore them to work today and unfortunately I don’t think I can wear them again as the fabric I so scratchy. I have had plenty of wool trousers, skirts etc in the past so it’s not that. I think it’s a combination of poor quality fabric and no lining.

i can’t really complain to them about the fabric, can I? So annoyed as they were not cheap.

@NewspaperDoll wow - never knew these existed! They might be a bit baggy for my purposes but I will investigate.

Or wear womens long johns, those that are silky / pure silk underneath.

Yes some kind of slip lining should sort that. I bought a wool cardigan that felt soft, but it turned out to scratch the back of my neck. I put a thin fabric layer inside the collar and that fixed it.

A tailor can also put in a lining. If they weren't cheap and you like them, it would be worth it!

Honestly, I’d just return them. I’ve never found that linings or extra layers fix itchy fabric properly, and they’ll just languish at the back of the wardrobe if they aren’t comfortable.

Return them as not fit for purpose. It’s a quality control issue - as in Hobbs are using a sub standard material in order to cut costs and maximise their profit.

The quality of their wool and wool mix trousers has declined hugely. I have Hobbs trousers that are twenty years old and the quality of material is incomparable. A friend who works at Hobbs agreed with me on this. They’ve cheapened the brand.

Better to source older Hobbs clothes second hand, on Vinted etc.

I would return the trousers. It sounds lazy, but it would just be too much faff for me to mess about with slips and a tailor would probably cost almost as much as a new pair of comfortable trousers.

I would take them back and ask for a refund. They’re not fit for purpose. Good luck.
