Luminous setting powder and blusher

I am 42 and have never used blusher or powder (I use light foundation or CC cream), but quite want to give it a go. I quite like the look of the Hourglass Infinity power but are there less spendy alternatives? And can someone suggest a good powder blush for a newbie?

Laura Geller stuff is cheaper and sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Thank you. I'll check it out, but I'm not quite sure I'm in need of a special brand for "mature" skin. I wear regular foundation etc.

That’s how it is marketed, but it’s fine for younger skin too (I’m not old and I use it.) I got it in TK Maxx originally and I wasn’t aware of its marketing. It’s really glowy. I had the Hourglass palette and it’s good, but the Laura Geller stuff is just as good and way cheaper.
I also have quite greasy skin and the brighten powder foundation works way better for me than any liquid foundation I have ever tried.

I'm just trying Laura Geller Baked and it fits your criteria, if it's within budget.

My favourite powder blush is Nars Orgasm, never found an alternative I like as much as that one. Powder highlighter has been and always will be Mac soft and gentle. For setting powders I jist recently got a Huda Beauty easy bake loose powder and really rate it especially for under eyes.

Some of the Bourjois little round pot blushers are luminous. Especially the shades with Or in the name.

I love the givenchy prisme libre. I tend to wear it over a bit of tinted primer but it probably works well on its own.

Do you mean laura geller balance and brighten or balance and glow

I would go for balance and brighten tbh, unless perhaps a bit older with dull skin

I use the double take - think Estée Lauder Double wear but as a powder ( although its a baked cream ) and then the balance and brighten - lifts everything

I also use the palette that has the bronzer/blush/highlighters and eyeshadows. The blush is just beautiful, seriously pearlised , not shiny just glowing - a little goes miles, The bronzer I find looks to be very flat when applying, but again, use very little, and then it just seems to blend in and lifts. The eyeshadows are ok, I find them best applied with a finger then a brush and just smudge them on

The highlighters look frightening but are actually pretty subtle - again, less is more

What I love, and in a way hate, is I forget Im wearing make up because it really is so light. Balance and brighten is not going to cover, it does what it says, hence I also use a bit of double take to cover my red areas

One thing about LG, is you do need to really moisturise your skin and allow it to sink in before application. She also promotes her primer - Spackle - its good - but I use other primers and get good results

I actually love the Hourglass powders and am on my second palette - the 6 pan style where you get a bronzer, 2 finishing powders, 2 blush and a highlighter. I used my last one to the absolute end (took about 2 years of pretty much daily use) and will replace this one when it eventually runs out.
The By Terry CC palettes are also really nice, and a bit cheaper.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/10/2024 10:21

I use the Hourglass powder daily with a big fluffy brush - I replaced mine this month but had had the previous one for over two years, so while it is ££ it really does last.

MemphisBluesAgain · 28/10/2024 12:30

Thanks all - I think I will just give the Hourglass a go. The LG ones just don't make my heart sing.
