Ditching mascara completely for everyday?

I’m beginning to hate mascara. I’ve tried so many brands over the last 12 years, and while I’ve found many that make my lashes look like falsies, the removal is always such a pain. Sometimes, literally causing pain. I’ve tried many different methods of removal, many different brands from Nivea to Elemis (high price does not equal better quality btw), and I’m just always let down.

My eyes are so sensitive as it is. Rubbing them can easily cause me to get a headache. If I so much as get an eyelash in my eye, that’s it - my eye is blurry for the day, and I get a headache, just from trying to remove it and the irritation caused. So you can imagine what removing mascara 5-6 days a week can cause for me. Even the skin around my eyes suffer - the skin gets red and sore to the touch, and my dark circles get worse (I’ve got anemia, so I always look bruised under my eyes).

All this to ask; will I look silly if I ditch the mascara? I normally use lashes if I’m going to an “event” (work party, family wedding, etc) and they don’t irritate me - but they’re a bit much for my liking for everyday. I also don’t want to get lash extensions or a lift because of the sensitivity risk. I’m 27, and it seems all of my peers are all about the lashes, so I don’t want to stand out or look odd either. Also aware I could be overthinking this entirely

Have any of you ditched the mascara?

Try tatti lashes OP, they have a range of lashes so you can get natural looking ones for daytime and I believe they also sell ab adhesive for sensitive eyes.

Mine last between 7-10 days and I love them, can't remember the last time I wore mascara.

I use lola lashes OP, magnetic with magnetic eyeliner. I can't get on with glue or the ones that have magnets on both sides. With these you just put a thin line of eyeliner and it attaches right on and stays all day. I have subtle day ones and more dramatic going out ones.. cost me £14 and I wear them every day for at least 4 months
Takes same amount of time as putting mascara on, but none of the awful taking off 😆

I gave up mascara several years ago for sensitivity reasons. I have very fair eyelashes and I won't lie, it did feel odd at first, but I'd never go back to it.
I've tried it again a few times, just to see, and I hate how it looks now and can't believe I wore it for so long.

Admittedly I wear specs so there's already other stuff going on around my eyes.

By the way my experience of eyelash tinting when you have sensitive eyes is 'yikes! Ouch!' I really don't recommend it.

Thanks all! I’ll definitely give myself a break for a week and then maybe try some of the recs here - especially the magnetic lashes!! Eyelash tinting is definitely something I’m wary of, which a few of you have proven me right to be!!

Eyes are better this morning but the left one (arguably my most sensitive eye) is still feeling stingy in the corner 🙈

You could try dying them or using eyelash curlers and Vaseline if you want them to look 'done' or just leave them be!

Pound land waterproof mascara. It's subtle and I don't take it off... have tried expensive ones and they are clumpy and horrid. Poundland works fine

I very rarely wear any mascara anymore except if I'm feeling I want them more 'done' and even then the best mascara feels too 'clumpy' compared to natural. I always curl them though and that makes them look quite nice, works well with long dark lashes. Have you perhaps thought of a lash growth serum? Not used personally but lots of people use recommend revitalash and such like. If they naturally grew longer they'd look quite nice without anything on them.

You just leave it on? Until it wears off?

Tried castor oil for a while but again, sensitivity issues. I’ve heard loads of good reviews about grandelash & uklash but apparently they contain an ingredient that can cause permanent redness, orbital fat loss & permanent change of iris color???

Well, day one of no mascara. Removed my makeup earlier than usual cause I have no proper evening plans, and the difference was amazing. No eye irritation, no rubbing, no leftover panda eyes. Wore my usual makeup and got told I looked very fresh faced. Might just be my new look!! Will stick to original plan of waiting a week and then revisiting though, just to see - but off to a good start!!

I have allergies and both dry and watery eyes so I find mascara very uncomfortable. I tried tubing mascara once but one of the 'tubes' got in my eye, it was horrific trying to get it out.

I only use mascara occasionally now, but when I do I'm very aware of it and can't wait to take it off. I don't think anyone is paying that much attention to notice whether you're wearing it or not. The only time I notice it on people is if they've got it very thickly layered on or if they've got false eyelashes, and personally I don't like either of those looks.

Just in case, in the unlikely event, anyone wanted an update:

I’m never returning to mascara!! I went without for a week and then went back with a tubing mascara, a regular mascara, etc. They weren’t worth it - to the point that I left all my mascara at home when going on holiday. For me, that’s a big deal (first world problems!!). I’ve bought a set of falsies that are very natural looking and slot over my own without much fuss or adjustment for the days where I want a little extra oomph, but it’s safe to say, my mascara will be used up and thrown out, never to be seen again 🤣
