Best way to remove bobbles from posh jumper please

Hello there. I am hoping the style Gurusfrom Mumsnet can help me.
I bought a very expensive jumper from Reiss. It’s great but it’s developing bobbles on the front. I think it’s where the jumper rubs against the desk when I’m working. What is the best thing to do? Is there a way to shave them off?

Thanks in advance

Yes shave them with a razor

DecafDodger · 26/10/2024 14:20

or buy a bobble shaver, if you're worried about damaging the garment.

Cardboardeaux · 26/10/2024 14:21

Get a wool comb - using a razor works too but you risk making a hole in the fabric

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/10/2024 14:25

I use a fabric comb - mine was about £2 from Whitestuff.

The fabric combs are great. I've got one and whilst you should always start combing very gingerly until you know how the fabric behaves, you can build up a surprising amount of speed and pressure with it.

I have a Philips de-bubbler from Amazon. It's great, and cost about £25.

I bought a cashmere comb from Brora, but think I'd damage my items by using it.

^de-bobbler 😄

Ooh, thank you.

How easy is it to mess up and damage the fabric with the Philips, would you say?

Bearing in mind I am an absolute plank who cannot be trusted with anything needing a deft touch...

NotMeNoNo · 26/10/2024 17:04

The Phillips de-bobbler will do it, you only have to run it lightly over the surface and you can hear it munching up the bobbles. You would have to be very heavy handed to damage the jumper

OhTediosity · 26/10/2024 17:11

Another vote for the Philips fabric shaver. They are excellent and very gentle, even on cashmere.

Supersimkin7 · 26/10/2024 17:22

Stretch the jumper out! Makes all
the difference - you can’t cut fabric with no creases in it cos of the guard on the shaver.

I have a beast that was cheap on Amazon that works like a dream.

Thank you thank you thank you.StarStarStar

Here's to a bobble-free future...

Is there a reason why people don’t use perfectly ordinary clothes brushes any more?

I bought one of these in 1989 at the start of my second proper graduate job and have been using it ever since. The shorter bristles are actually for wool.

I don’t think the clothes brush will actually remove any bobbles. Impressed you’ve had a brush for 35 years. I use a battery de bobbler with a guard. Definitely keep the jumper flat but it works .

RandomersAssociation · 26/10/2024 18:25

Well I haven’t had bobbles on my knitwear for 35 years!

🤷‍♀️
