Heeled boots - keep or chuck?

MinaHarker1897 · 26/10/2024 14:03

I have a lot of these, heeled ankle boots. One pair look quite vintage, though they aren't, I bought them from Oasis but I have some fashion mags from 1975 and 1976 and there are similar ones in there so I am keeping those. But I have a lot of Chelsea boots with heels and apart from them being uncomfortable to walk in I sort of thought they are out of vogue now.

I have these and a lot of other pairs like them - about 8 pairs.

Keep or charity shop?

I’ve literally just dug out a pair of black block heeled ankle boots to wear tonight. I haven’t worn them in ages but none of my flat boots looked right with my outfit.

I'd get rid of any shoes or boots that aren’t comfy to wear though.

Jaehee · 26/10/2024 18:43

I have three pairs but I can't seem to make them work with anything. I wore a pair last year and hated how uncomfortable they felt after years of wearing flat shoes.

Heels have started to look quite odd to me. This is all I can think of when I see them now:

God, I wish my attic held treasures like that!

With regards to fashion, it's slim pickings up there - it's mostly old books, newspaper cuttings and my carrier bag collection. Carrier bags aside, you're more than welcome to some of the former!

Vinted all the way!

(I’m currently in the market for a pair of heeled boots, idgaf if heels aren’t the fashion any more)

So am I. I have bought two pairs in the last week.

What / why does it matter what anyone else thinks about your boots ?? If you like them and they are comfortable then wear them. Too expensive to give away just because someone else says they don't like them or they're not ' the latest fashion ' . Bonkers.

Throwaway fashion is so bad for the environment too. At least the OP said she was going to give them to a charity shop so someone else will get the benefit.
I would say if you've got good quality leather boots in a classic style keep wearing them, regardless of whether they're "in" or not. If they're uncomfortable - charity shop.

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2024 19:26

Don't people on here look at the fashion pages?
Keep them unless they are too tatty to wear.

Floisme · 26/10/2024 19:27

I've not worn heels since Noah was a lad and I've no intention of going back to them but, in a funny kind of way, I'll be quite pleased if there's a revival cos I'm bored out of my brain with all the sanctimonious threads about them.

That said op, I wouldn't keep any of them if they're not comfortable; instead I'd find some that are.

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2024 19:35

What @Floisme said.
I will wear them if I need to but I rarely need to.

I have lots of ankle boots, with kitten heels, block heels. I like patent leather, and soft leather feminine boots. Unfortunately I can no longer wear heels. So they need a new home.

The only ones I can still wear are flat brown leather UGG boots. I bought them a decade ago and another pair in the sale. Which the puppy ate last winter 🤬. They're slouchy with a buckle. I can pull them on easily.

fiorentina · 26/10/2024 20:10

Keep the heels or sell on Vinted as they are definitely on trend!

BaronessBomburst · 26/10/2024 15:48

I'm currently trying to decide which to buy between these two, so I say keep!

The second pair, no contest

Traybaked · 26/10/2024 22:01

I'm seeing a lot of blocked heels, especially the ones that have blocks that get slightly wider at the bottom in London at the moment.

BaronessBomburst · 26/10/2024 22:51

That's 50/50 on my dilemma then!
The ones on the left are M&S, the second pair are Tamaris. Price wise there's not much in it.

TheOGCCL · 26/10/2024 23:20

There are more heels in the shops at the moment, and highish ones at that (as well as lower kitten style).

I could never walk in very high heels but now even small heels (3cm plus) misalign my back as I've just evolved to wear flat shoes (in my twenties it was the other way round)

It's sad really as there's nothing like a heel to put a bit of glamour into things and it's my back not my feet that are the issue. But having said that I am one of the ones who would say you just don't see people wearing heels for every day anymore.

It's my back too. As a shortie I miss my heels. 😢

There's nothing wrong with what any of those three classy gents are wearing. The police might take objection to thise swords though.

Another vote for the second pair!

MemphisBluesAgain · 26/10/2024 23:59

I think block heeled boots are quite useful with wide leg trousers, which are currently very mainstream fashionable (no doubt trendsetters have moved on). Also with maxi and midi skirts. Worth keeping, I think.

Loveablockheel · 27/10/2024 00:16

Well you can tell from my user name what I think, honestly I love a block heel so versatile, adds a bit of height, easy to walk in and goes with pretty much most style of jeans/skirts/dresses, what’s not to love? It’s only on here a heel of anything over half an inch is described as ‘dated’ yet in the real world you see block heeled boots everyday of the week.

I'm with Flo and Kirsten here. I've still got shoes with heels but haven't worn them for ages. I won't get rid of them as they are the medium heel LK Bennet court style with neat , non blocky heels that LK Bennett have been doing for centuries and there might be a time I want to wear them. (And one pair of Manolo Blahnik's)

I don't like high block heels and never have but I'm not going to fret about wearing my heeled shoes if I want to.

oobedobe · 27/10/2024 16:17

I'm planning to re-wear my suede block heel boots this year, they look nice with ankle length wide or barrel leg jeans, I think that slightly western style boot is back in fashion. Mine are beige and dark grey. The past few years have been flat high chelsea boots all the way, so I think something slightly 'daintier' looks refreshing.

MinaHarker1897 · 28/10/2024 11:17

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 26/10/2024 14:48

I agree. I see heeled boots (not towering stilettos, but a block heel) pretty regularly.

Are all 8 pairs uncomfortable? I'd get rid of any that are, but any that are comfy and that you like, I'd keep.

Some of them are about 5 years old as I bought winter 2019, and then we had lockdown and I spent two years in rabbit slippers and Converse!

Thanks all for your comments, great to read.

@Garlicbest I also found Latin text books from school, text books from my A levels (I'm 37), half a dozen Christmas door wreaths, four cardboard boxes of Christmas and birthday cards sent to me and a box full of football programmes. All that is for another thread, though!

Laiste · 28/10/2024 14:33

Those black Dune boots, i have them too and i've had them on a couple of times over the last few days and welcomed them back!

2 weekends ago DH and i went away for the weekend and i thought fuck the sensible long riding boots and put on my knee high with proper high block heel boots. Thick tights, short skirt, felt a million dollars 😃

justasking111 · 28/10/2024 14:35

I've got boots more than twenty years old 🤭
