Frizzy hair getting me down

My hair has changed overnight. Honestly that’s not an exaggeration. I thought it was a bad hair day at first, then my shampoo, then my conditioner, then the damp air, but no, it seems rhis is my hair now.

What used to be a lovely straight sleek curtain of hair seems to have changed into a fuzzy mess. Even if I straighten it, as soon as I step outside it inflates horizontally into a frizz, and not even a fluffy frizz it looks and feels coarse.

It’s like each individual strand is fuzzy and you can see through it like looking through a mass of cobwebs. Whereas it used to be sleek and solid (if that makes sense).

Has anyone had any success with any conditioners/serums? I’ve read it’s probably damaged and thirsty so have tried a few conditioners and serums for frizzy hair and even if they work, they hold it for a day and then it’s back to fuzz. So before I spend a ridiculous amount of money, does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you!

Hmm that's weird it would change overnight. Has anything else changed? Have you had a trim recently? Moved location?

I got on very well with Hershesons Almost Everything cream and expensive shampoo by Oribe (which I can't currently afford), but the biggest change has been using my Dyson hairdryer and brush.

I came across this stuff at a local farmers market and have been really pleasantly surprised. I bought a bundle with all three products, but the butter and the serum are amazing to taming thin frizzy hair if that's what you have? (I use the oil too as I suffer from hair loss but you might not need that). It came beautifully packaged too. Rosemary hair growth | Suffusion

Colour wow Dreamcoat -amazing stuff!! Transformed my frizzy hair! I blow dry roughly to about 60/70% then spray it; then I use babyliss big hair as in not a great blow dryer. That works for me anyway; hope you get your hair back!

The same thing happened to me, it just seemed to be an overnight thing too! I’ve tried A LOT of products; Nine Yards Hair Down cream is fairly good, alongside a very hydrating shampoo/conditioner such as Sebastian Hydrè. Instalight by Milkshake is excellent but I’ve only had a treatment in a salon, you can buy it online though. It’s a 3 step treatment and is expensive but gives good results.

Do you have a hairdresser that you trust. They may not have the cheapest solution but should work with you to find solutions that are within your budget.

You could give Paul mitchhel super skinny serum a try. I love it

I know this is an expensive fix but I was plagued with frizzy hair until I bought a lloreal steam pod. My hair is straight shiny and frizz free. So much better than ordinary straighteners!

Moroccan Oil hair products are good, they do an anti frizz shampoo, conditioner and styling spray.

LoafofSellotape · 25/10/2024 10:10

Menopausal? Mine did the same .

L'Oréal Extraordinary Oil

Morrocon oil smoothing cream

L'Oréal Metal Detox oil

John Frieda lightweight frizz ease

All these are fantastic on damp hair then blow-dry.

chillycat · 25/10/2024 10:38

I have a keratin straightening treatment every four months or so at hairdressers.
Dyson hairdryer.
Very recently Dyson blow dry cream.
All will help imo

Val33 · 25/10/2024 10:45

I also love my L'Oreal Steampod and Tresemme do a really good (and cheap) conditioner - Keratin Smooth 72 hour frizz control. A deep treatment mask once a week could help too.

I use the L'Oreal Bond Repair serum after washing my hair and before using the Steampod.
Kerastase Ciment (I use the one for fine hair) is great too for helping with frizz but I go with cheaper options if I can. I've bought it from Amazon but it's not the same as I used to get in the hairdressers, so beware of fakes.

Octopusespunchforfun · 25/10/2024 15:25

Thank you everyone I’ve made a list and will try some products.

I have a feeling it may be a peri-menopause thing. I’m 43 so it’s likely. If so I hope it’s fixable as it’s just wild! I went out this morning and within minutes of being outside I could see it expanding in my peripheral vision. It’s got a mind of its own now.

I know it sounds vain but I would actually pay a lot to sort this, it’s my only good feature (was).

If nothing works it’s off to the hairdressers for a buzz cut some treatments.

Mine is like this and I've found all the oils/treatments do help... until I step outside. Not even just humid and damp weather are the issue, just being outside generally. It's really frustrating, especially as I look crap with my hair up (high forehead). Haven't tried a keratin treatment yet which I often see recommended so that may be my next step.

LorettyTen · 25/10/2024 16:09

I also recommend a keratin treatment. Expensive but lasts 3 months if done properly. It's best done by a hairdresser.

Anicecumberlandsausage · 25/10/2024 16:45

I think I'm peri and although my hair has always been difficult, now it's frizzy and unmanageable. I'm too lazy to style it so I keep it long, and put it up everyday!

Not helpful, I know!

TorroFerney · 25/10/2024 17:46

Another one saying keratin treatment.

I realise this is an old post but it was my post so I’m going to resurrect it! ☺️

I can’t remember who recommended it but the Pantene shampoo, conditioner and hair mask have worked wonders. (Pics below as can’t remember names off hand).

I use the hair mask once a week. The frizz halo has gone. The only thing I find is that I need to use a clarifying shampoo (Cantu) at the start of every wash otherwise I feel my hair has a lot of build up but this routine has been a life saver.

Other brands are available 😂 I think the main thing is that my hair was just thirsty and broken.

Hope you don’t mind me bumping this thread back up but wanted to share for others in my position 😁
