Please help me find THE velvet dress

I really fancy a velvet dress for Christmas but, despite them being everywhere, I can't find what I want 😭

I'm 5'5 and a 16/18. Mahoosive boobs so prefer a lower neckline or I look like Saturn. Budget probs £150 max as I'm hoping to lose more weight but might consider up to £200 for the perfect dress.

I'd rather something short, I don't like my legs but midi just doesn't work for me and maxi in velvet I think would be too formal for what I want.

So yeah, I'm a fussy mare. Which is why I can't find anything. However I am pretty easy on colour. Please help me 🙏

There are a few on the Finery website that might suit.

I’m hunting charity shops and Vinted for a cotton velvet dress that is what I think of as proper velvet and not the shiny polyester velour type material that even high end high street brands now offer. 😔

There are loads of nice velvet dresses on Debenhams website :)

This is the one I bought last year from Wolf and Badger.

Yes. I do look like a goddess in it and it feels amazing.

The wolf and badger one is beautiful. May I ask what the fabric is? It doesn’t look shiny.

It's polyester and spandex, but not shiny at all. Quite matte, heavy and drapes really well.

Edit: Serves me right for not checking the thread, exactly one post above me is the same one! Guess this is a second recommendation and can vouch for it being lovely in person too!

I love these Disturbia dresses:

Longer: Here
Shorter version of same dress: Here

they also have a really nice dark purple one with embroidery Here

I had the longer snake embroidered dress for a wedding and got a lot of compliments. It’s more flattering for big chests so I had to pin it as I am not blessed with boobs unfortunately! Got a lot of compliments though. A bit more goth/alt style but I think they’re so nice!

Appreciate they're not everyone's style but Disturbia have some lovely ones in various lengths https://www.disturbia.co.uk/collections/womens-dresses?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwveK4BhD4ARIsAKy6pMJpWwVVKwhAUqDoDrmjBL7ezISvIg62pdETRiP5mXNV7R2XQa3SIyUaAlEjEALw_wcB

I have been coveting the Zarina ever since I saw someone wearing it and she looked incredible (though have put off buying it as I don't think it will look as good on me).
They charge for returns so just be aware of that if ordering.

Toast (who feel quite luxurious to me) have had some past velvet dresses with low neckline and shorter hem. A Quick Look on vinted shows a few are available size depending. Here's a screenshot of what I mean. (They'd be about £200 new probably)

Some on Popsy with more coming out Friday.

Twinstudy · 23/10/2024 14:34

Love those disturbia dresses, does anyone have any thoughts on what the sizing is like? Since I'm between sizes I'd usually buy both and return but I see they charge for returns

I love Closet dresses, they often have incredibly flattering waists - this one in particular

They are pretty true to size, especially in the v-necks. I'm very busty (GG) and had to return a non stretch dress because it was tight on the bust but fine everywhere else.
The velvet ones are stretch fabric too.

I am usually a 12 but small busted, I sized down and the front still gaped but fitted well on hips, waist etc. - the material has stretch so quite forgiving x

I just saw a cross over bodice one in the Boden sale (looking at a different post-lol)- I'd try there https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/ophelia-velvet-midi-wrap-dress-navy/sty-d1120-nav?cat=C1_S2_G4
It's close to your maximum budget though. Good luck.
