Seborrheic dermatitis on sides of nose

Has anyone got any experience with this? I have tried treating it with anti dandruff shampoo as a face wash a few times a week, which seemed to work initially but it's flared up again. Would rather not go to the GP about it as they were quite dismissive the last time. It's really, red, flakey and sore at the moment.

Sudocrem!

Try micanozole or clotrimazole type creams, basically Canesten. It's fungal, so you need something specifically targeted to get rid of it and not just soothe it. It tends to work, also don't put a moisturiser with oils in that area, as oils tend to make it worse. I found lots of dermatologists on YouTube were helpful, when GP wasn't very knowledgeable on the subject.

Hi
The pharmacist recommended Daktarin Gold for mine (over the counter). I've tried various moisturisers to find one that doesn't make it worse - currently using Nivea (more of a random find).

I have seborrhoeic dermatitis and use Nizoral shampoo ( buy over the counter in the pharmacy and some supermarkets) once every 4 weeks to keep it under control. I leave the lather on my hair and eyebrows and rub into my ears and leave for 10 minutes before rinsing as I get flakes and soreness in all of these areas. I would use nizoral as a shampoo and use some of the lather on the sides if your nose for 10 minutes before rinsing with water. The active ingredients in Nizoral will get rid of the overgrowth of the yeast that causes the seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Second Nizoral, as described above.

It was actually Nizoral that I have been using but just like a normal face wash rather than leaving it on, I will try that right now. Thank you!

I would treat your hair with it also because you need to get the yeast away from your face. Hope it works, it's horrible when people are dismissive of something that bothers you.

I also get this op, it's flared up the last month, usually does with a change of season. I'm going to try the Nizoral and see how I get on, so thanks for the thread.

I currently have this and bought some Nizoral today. More help from a short Mumsnet thread than the GP 🙄

Wordless · 08/01/2025 17:53

Which Nizoral product exactly?
