What should I wear for Pilates class?

Right then, I am 16 weeks post-baby and have decided to get me arse into gear regarding getting back in shape. And by this I don't really want to loose weight, more get a good shape. So, Pilates was suggested and I have enrolled on a course. I am a bit terrified actually!

So, was wondering what I should wear? On a website it says tight top and shorts or leggings but not sure I am brave enough for that! On the other hand, if that's what everyone else wears, then I won't want to be the odd one out! Please help!

Oh and - silly question - will I be barefoot? If not, what footwear?

I wear track suit bottoms, and like sprogger a tshirt that doesn't gape about when in positions, you can get in a muddle!!

I go barefoot, but keep socks nearby.

It's really good, you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the info sprogger and bluesky - and the encouragement! Will look out for those items when shopping at the weekend.

Also, with you both being experiences pilates people, do you think it's worth me getting a book/dvd/own ball so I can try and do some on my own in my spare time (mind you, what 'spare time' I get with a 3 month and a 2 year old is close to none!)

Jewels,
I'm just back from a class tonight. It's fab. Takes a wee bit of thinking initially but it's soooo good for you. I started classes 10 weeks post natally (about 18 months ago). Really enjoy it and feel much stronger in my "core". Sprogger and Bluesky are bang on with the gear to wear. So long as you're comfy and not self conscious you'll be fine. I tend to keep my socks on as much as I can cos I go to a class in a draughty old hall.
Enjoy!

There is a great little book in M&S at the mo, only about £2.50 or £3.50. It has photos of the exercises, which is great to remind you and you can have it next to you. I'd try and practice some at the weekend and had forgotten most of the exercises, or which bit stuck in the air first, my arm or my leg!

My teacher always says just do some before jumping into bed, even if it's just a set of one of the exercises, or in the morning if dh is doing the children's breakfast (!?) Better to do a bit, than think you have to find a whole 30 mins.

I was so much better when I practiced between classes, just once or twice, it really showed in my strength.

I don't use a big ball, I have one, but tend to stick to the exercises on the floor. Perhaps get a mat instead, I would get that over a ball.

We do exercises with those stretchy purple bands, they are good.

Hello bluesky, sprogger and spub!

I had my first pilates session today and loved it. Which is to say feel a bit achey and knackered but other than that

I wore some widelegged jersey bottoms, a while vest, a white V neck tight tshirt and socks but the bottoms kept slipping down my (awfully white) legs during tabletop and stuff so will get some more fitted. Most of the others had on exactly what you all recommended so that is my mission for the weekend. You were also right about no one even noticing which was great because at times I had no idea what was going on! And I did the breathing wrong lots too! The instructor said I did really well and I am going to carry on with it. Thanks for the encouragement

Go Jewels! Glad you enjoyed it. BTW, my legs look like they belong to someone on a mortuary slab and never fail to raise a laugh!
The pilates breathing will come and you'll do it without thinking about it after a while!
