not flattering

bad length (for me at any rate) and the pattern is not great

beansmum · 23/04/2008 21:32

I like the style but don't like any of the colours.

fishie · 23/04/2008 21:33

i think it is very recognisably boden, find this puts me off wearing their patterned stuff.

otherwise it is nice, i like empire line. what shape / size are you?

vastly overpriced, use code
TYOU £10 off free delivery / returns

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:33

Ah thanks for responses. I am confident I like the colour (of the main picture, not any of the alternatives) but I am not sure of anything else.

Is it not flattering? I don't understand these things.

lou33 · 23/04/2008 21:34

i dont like it, sorry

EffiePerine · 23/04/2008 21:35

it's the pattern for me. I think people will see the dress and not you IYSWIM.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:35

I am tallish (5 foot 8) and a size 12. In my 40s, if that is relevant. Never bought Boden before so not aware of what is recognisably Boden. Agree about the price - I expect to find gold sewn into the hem!

OP posts:
Yabbadabbadooo · 23/04/2008 21:36

Too Boden. Don't Do It.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:36

Don't worry about saying anything that might offend. Your comments are interesting. Perhaps I should ask you to find something similar that you DO like. Might give me an idea of where you are coming from.

OP posts:
fishie · 23/04/2008 21:38

where is your waist? i don't seem to have one so empire line is good for me as it sort of skims over the whole area. i do not have hips or bottom either. sort of straight up and down with big bosom and skinny legs.

empire is not so good if you really do have a waist or are pear shaped.

newgirl · 23/04/2008 21:38

actually i dont mind it - the sleeve length and cut under the bust look nice. I would probably wear it with a black cardigan and pumps which might tone it down a bit. I think there are things out there along similar lines - have you looked at monsoon?

EffiePerine · 23/04/2008 21:39

what about this (tho no sleeves)

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:41

Where is my waist? Is there a choice of waist positions? Ummm, sorry, finding this hard to answer. The way I see myself: I am tall, not very well endowed in the chest but not flat chested (B/C cup), reasonably slim throughout but I have a bit of a tummy problem, long legs. My legs are good. Does that help?

Dh picked this dress for me because he thought empire line would be the answer to my tummy issue.

OP posts:
fishie · 23/04/2008 21:41

while we are on fat face, are you skinny?

lovely shape alas only one colour. and £65.

EffiePerine · 23/04/2008 21:42

If you have good legs no need for dresses that cut you off mid-calf

(and at a size 12 you can't have much of a tummy)

luckylady74 · 23/04/2008 21:42

I think it's lovely - particularly with a tan or darker skin tone and with your slim figure will be a good length. You need a reasonable chest or a vest (I wouldn't pick it for that reason!)underneath.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:43

Effie, that looks a bit short for me and also has straps and not sleeves. I prefer sleeves.

newgirl, I have not looked in Monsoon for about 12 years now. I used to like the look of their stuff but never ever found a dress that fitted me. I think they were too long in the body?

OP posts:
Hassled · 23/04/2008 21:44

I think it's lovely but it does shriek "Boden". I couldn't wear it because I have a paunch - if you're reasonably flat or just don't ever exhale it would look gorgeous.

fishie · 23/04/2008 21:45

xpost. yes empire will skim over the middle, i think you should try it on, free returns with that code so nothing lost. might be too long? esp for lovely legs, you would not want to cover up too much.

the main thing with empires is not to have the sleeves stopping at the same point as the under bust or one looks like a skittle.

schneebly · 23/04/2008 21:46

I think it is lovely

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:47

Well, I used to love dressing in above the knee skirts because I am really confident about my legs, but I am in my 40s now and I don't want to sound like I am a frump but I think there comes a time when you need to dress your age. I thought the length was ok.

OP posts:
Hassled · 23/04/2008 21:48

I don't get this "Empire line will hide my tummy" logic - with me empire line dresses just look like maternity dresses. DOn't actually know what the solution is though.

newgirl · 23/04/2008 21:48

i love that one fishie

i dont know how to do links but it might be worth having a look at the monsoon website - lots of dresses in floral prints but slightly subtler

mind you if your dh likes it, then maybe he will be very pleased to see you in it

fishie · 23/04/2008 21:51

i look about a stone lighter in an empire line. am a size smaller on bottom, it evens it out without making me look giant in arse.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/04/2008 21:52

Yeah, for me the only issue is my tummy. I have put on a bit of weight round the middle and upper arms (4 kids, all breastfed, you would expect that right?) but nothing horrendous. My only problem area is the tummy. Dh thought empire line would hide it but I agree with you hassled, I am doubtful.
