Body odour in bikini line area

Koalityone · 15/10/2024 19:08

i have noticed I get body odour coming from this area if I get a bit hot, I am a bit overweight (but not massively so, size 14-16 for ref)
i am on my feet all day with my job and some days I do need to exert myself more and have noticed the smell on these days

any tips or advice for how to manage (or banish!!)
absolutely mortified that my colleagues may have smelt me!

They won't have. It completely normal. I have but. My ex had it just below his stomach- he was not much overweight.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 15/10/2024 19:11

Completely normal.
Humans aren't meant to smell of roses all day every day.

Somethingsnappy · 15/10/2024 19:22

Do you wear natural fibres? Obviously cotton etc will be much better at keeping this at bay, than polyester etc.

MooDeng · 15/10/2024 19:24

It's normal, just shower everyday. I feel like we are so much more aware of our own smells. I'll often think I stink (armpits) and DH can't smell a thing.

I'm also super aware when I'm on my period, I can smell it and think others can!

Koalityone · 15/10/2024 19:25

I’m not expecting to smell amazing all day (although it would be lovely!)
but when I pull my trousers down the smell is noticeable then.
Always wear cotton knickers, trousers/skirts vary, tend to wear leggings under dresses for work though.

Sweat contains urea, which smells when it dries. It's natural, your crotch isn't meant to be sterile and odour free.

Drinking more water will mean urea comes out in urine and less comes out in sweat. It might help to change pants during the day or have a quick dab with a wet tissue etc.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 15/10/2024 19:34

I’d suggest washing well with an antibacterial wash and washing clothing on a 60c for an hour.
Consider layering body lotion /talc perhaps, though that could make it worse, actually could be a bad idea! My aunt loved talc, imperial leather and always smelt fresh.
Sweat /crotch sweat can be hormonal, if your peri maybe.
Can you get breathable undies?

Attelina · 15/10/2024 19:38

Baby talcum powder or talc free baby powder.

Koalityone · 15/10/2024 19:42

Definitely need to drink more water so will try that for sure.
washing with wet tissue through the day and washing chores at 60 are good ideas and easy to implement.

don’t think I’m peri, right age almost but periods are still very regular.

unsure about baby powder, is it safe to use now (remember all the backlash about Johnson's talc causing cancer)

What are your leggings made with?

Make sure it's natural fibres.

TwinklyNight · 15/10/2024 19:49

Bring some baby wipes, the Aveeno ones are fragrance-free.

you can be in peri but still have regular periods

Definitely wouldn't use anti bac wash as this will upset the PH down there and you'll possibly end up with BV! , a gentle female wash should sort it as with upping water intake

SulkySeagull · 15/10/2024 20:38

Take some wipes - feminine wipes or baby wipes and give yourself a freshen up during the day

suki1964 · 15/10/2024 21:48

When Im carrying too much weight I find I smell a tad cheesy in some areas - under the boobs and under my wonderful ( not) overhang, esp in hot weather, I tend to get a tad "moist" in those areas, Washing, and really drying the areas and adding a smear of canistan or any anti fungal cream sorts it . But keeping the weight down keeps it at bay ( I up and down )

It’s made of cornstarch now, so perfectly safe.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 15/10/2024 23:45

I have the same problem, specifically BO in the groin area (sounds gross I know!!) I put roll on deodorant on down there whilst wearing knickers, ie I roll it up and down the knicker line each side. Not very edifying but it does work! I personally don't think anything aside from antiperspirant deodorant works on actual strong smelling sweat.

Popcorn63 · 15/10/2024 23:49

Intertrigo may be the cause.

Sparklybutold · 15/10/2024 23:51

You might have a fungal infection ? (Akin to jock itch)

BibbityBobbityToo · 15/10/2024 23:58

If it's the skin where your leg joins your pelvis rather than actual genital parts (the equivalent of your armpit for your leg 😆) use an antibacterial shower gel.

I wouldn't put talc anywhere near my bits just in case.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 16/10/2024 06:11

Removing hair might help if you don't already.

millymoo1202 · 16/10/2024 13:40

I sometimes get this where my c sections scar is with my flabby belly hanging over! 🙈

BusterGonad · 16/10/2024 16:48

I've lived in hot and humid countries and swear by non scented daily panty liners, they soak up any sweat, keep you feeling fresh and can be changed if you feel a bit paranoid or just feel a bit hot and bothered.

flowersintheatticus · 16/10/2024 17:36

I had this severely with my multiple c/s 'apron' and now I get it exactly on the bikini line. My pants are noticeably sweaty in the thigh area and this has never happened before so I'm putting it down to hormones. Being scrupulous with hygiene is obviously really important, but showering daily isn't enough for me. I made up a small spray bottle of distilled witch hazel with a few drops of tea tree oil (keep it in my handbag), and using a cotton pad wipe these areas multiple times a day. My dd told me recently that I've developed a BO problem too from underarms, so I've now started using this concoction underarms if I'm feeling sweaty and it seems to work well.

This summer on holiday I wore 3 panty liners at a time. One in the regular position, and one wrapped on each side of my pants to absorb the sweat. It was such a game changer in the heat!
