As title asks, if you are short and stout where do you buy your trousers? I'm 5ft 1, and a uk 14/16, I am so fed up of wearing the same 2 pairs of jeans that I took up and two pairs of trousers that I took up, Ii would. just like to buy some wide/straight legged jeans or trousers that don't pool on the floor even when they are the short/petite fit (M&S, Next, Pixie Girl, Fat Face I'm looking at you) also if they are mid rise all the better too as waistbands seem to be almost reaching armpit they are so high rised! Help me please, I'm lost in the wilderness wearing tatty trews worried about what I will do if these fall apart.

Roman sell petite trousers, might be worth a look.

TheOGCCL · 16/10/2024 00:22

Seasalt do petite fit trousers and also have full measurements as to what that means for each style.

Wide-Leg Jeans - Blue at Cotton Traders

27" inside leg

Bon Marche do jeans with a 25" inside leg but they don't have any wide leg ones, only straight or skinny.

ArtyFartyQueen · 16/10/2024 03:15

I’m 5ft and a size 18 and most of my trousers are from Next and TU (Sainsbury’s) Somewhere I can get away with a regular length or sometimes I need their short length - depends on the trouser style

ForGreyKoala · 16/10/2024 03:28

I feel your pain OP. I'm not in the UK, but at 5 ft 7 I find pants too long for me, so it must be hell for you!!! Apparently if you are a size 16 you are over 6 ft tall, with legs like tree trunks. I cannot find a pair of bootcut jeans which fit tight from the thigh to the knee, and am keeping the post office going with all my returns.

marshmallowfinder · 16/10/2024 04:37

I haven't bought clothes for a year or so, but used to get some good stuff in Bonmarche. I'm 4ft11 and 20/22. I'd say it's my go-to clothes shop actually!

User37482 · 16/10/2024 05:57

Zara, some need adjustment but mainly fine as there are a lot of cropped styles. I often buy trousers and then just have a tailor take them up. I find next petites to be too long for me.

HadlowLandscapes · 16/10/2024 06:39

I am also petite and find that all the 'short' leg offerings don't cut it because the waist/crotch ratio has not been adjusted. So I look for mid-rise and short length. I find Abercrombie and Hollister pretty good in that respect. This high-waisted fashion can do one!!!

dottiedodah · 16/10/2024 06:58

At 5 " 0 ins I feel your pain .M and S trousers are also too long ,even the short size .The Zip Yard are very good .At £14 .00 to take up ,not exactly cheap but well worth it.Otherwise when 3/4 length in fashion I use those!

sleepyscientist · 16/10/2024 07:01

Zara is good for getting taken up as they don't put details to far down the leg. Levi also do free alternations. I make a point of dropping any trousers in the sewing shop on my way out of the shopping centre so they don't just hang in my wardrobe

FergusSingsTheBIues · 16/10/2024 07:02

You need to but cropped trousers - my mum was shorter than you and dresses very well.

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 16/10/2024 07:08

I like these forever new ones and they’re currently on sale in black. They are a nice quality and very comfy but smart. https://www.forevernew.co.uk/tessa-petite-straight-leg-pant-282152?colour=taupe-suit

I would say they are probably for someone more 5 3, you might still need to take them up if not wearing heels.

Im 5'5 and everything is too long for me, even bought some 'petite' jeans in Tu and when rolled up they are still just on the ankle.

Who is this 6 foot petite range aimed at I wonder?

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 16/10/2024 07:14

Also on jeans, I’ve not bought from this range yet but have you tried Mint Velvet? They do a short length and the styles look lovely.

i normally buy Frame cropped jeans which are the perfect full length on me but the mint velvet ones are a more appealing prince point.

Moanycowbag · 18/10/2024 16:51

Thank you for all the suggestions, some are way out of my price range, and cropped trews from the normal ranges are always too long in the rise so the crotch is by my knees or the waistband is under my armpits, I ordered a load from Next (different ranges) and M&S, out of all of it I am keeping one pair of straight leg jeans but had to buy chunky heeled boots to be able able to wear them, but they will do for the time being.

I hate having things altered as I can do it myself, but it's just the annoyance of having to do it.

Next have a petite section.

short and stout makes me think of the teapot song!

GreenSmithing · 18/10/2024 17:00

Levi 501 cropped

Straight leg. 26 inch inseam. Quite often on sale. Last forever.

I cannot fathom how the sizing works and last time I looked at Levi jeans they didn't do the larger sizes in a short leg as you are only allowed to be thin short.

I am pretty much like a teapot with legs, but if you read the OP you would see that I mention Next, their petite trouser is about a foot too long for me.

I'm 5ft 1 and wear M&S Sienna jeans in extra short. They fit me fine without having to take them up. Have you tried those?

I couldn't find anything in extra short on the site, everything seems to sell really quickly, you would think they might learn something from that.

5 foot, size 20 and I like m and s trousers

M123gotns · 18/10/2024 19:20

Hmm. They seem to have dark indigo in a 14 or 16, extra short but not the other colours.

NCfor24 · 18/10/2024 19:21

Work trousers from Bon Marche. They do a petite length and elasticated back waist which is comfy for sitting at a desk all day.
I buy jeans from Simply Be usually in the short/petite length.
Have just got a couple of pairs of Halara trousers - a more tailored style for work, but comfy and stretchy; and a stretch cord. Both are petite length but the tailored style is longer and may need a small heel. The cord shape lends itself to being rolled up for a casual look so perfect for a shorter leg. I'm about a 27" inside leg.
