And did it work? Would love to hear of it did or didn’t before I shell out ££££.

I have pcos but also regular periods and I have children so it is maybe not as bad as some. But I am v hairy

I did laser it did work but didn't last. The hair came back on my lip and when I was over 30, my chin and neck decided to join in the fun as well Hmm

I've been having electrolysis instead for about 18 months it's working but takes longer than laser and it's better (but harder to live with) to leave it alone in between

I have PCOS and had some hair removed on face. It worked quite well. I wouldn’t say it has 100% eliminated it. I might go back every 5 years or so as there are a few thin hairs but it makes it way way better.

I think how effective it is also depends on your hair and skin colour. I have dark brown hair and light skin so if it works well. The more contrast in colour the better it is I think.

Yep, at a fancy reputable Harley Street clinic. It didn’t work for me and made it a million times worse. When I complained, they pointed to the fine print in the patient agreement stating a possible side effect was worsening of the condition. I was devastated and thousands of pounds down.

Electrolysis worked, if you go down that route, make sure the therapist is on the BIAE register.

Me!

Currently about 8 months in and have just completed my 9th session. Lip is fine but the very wiry hairs on the sides of my chin are very stubborn. Massive reduction, but some are hanging in there.

I think I’ll need at least three more sessions.

Overall though, I’m seeing an improvement.

My SIL said laser did nothing and spends a fortune on electrolysis, the hair still comes back bimut it is better than using laser

I went the other way - had electrolysis first for five years. I am very hairy and had to go twice a week for the first year which cost a fortune but did make a big dent in the growth. Just switched to laser. I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’ll never all be gone and so the bi monthly laser is a maintenance thing that I’ll have to do the same as when I go for a hair cut.

I have PCOS and it didnt work for me. I had 2 years worth of lazer, 6 weeks apart for 24 month straight.

Because its hormonal, there was no guarentee it would work. Threading lasts the longest for me

I had my first laser almost 20 years ago. It dramatically lowered the amount of facial hair I get. Due to PCOS, I was aware it would not stop it forever. About 12 years ago I bought a Phillips Lumea and stopped going to salons to get laser. I now laser at home with my Lumea 3 or so times a year, I can go longer periods without but having children messed with my hormones again and after my last child the hair came back a bit stronger hence going it 3 times a year now - before that it was probably a yearly top up.

That is just my face however, I Lasered my arms with my Lumea and haven't had to touch them in over 10 years, they remain hair free as well as other parts of my body including my legs under the knee. My face just feels it needs hair apparently.

PCOS hair is absolutely relentless isn’t it?

WWGD · 14/10/2024 21:32

I tried electrolysis years ago and did not help. Also tried vaniqa years ago and it worked only when I was also on the pill, in combo. But I don’t want to be on the pill now.
man low carbing now though so hoping that Co trips the hormones a bit as well so maybe that would work in combo with laser. I can get ten treatments at a clinic called Therapie (it’s a chain) for £400.

Yes!
@WWGD have you ever tried Spironolactone tablets? They have to be prescribed from the doc but excellent at leveling out hormones and helped with my hair growth. It's not actually a medication for PCOS, it's actually a diuretic but a side effect is that it balances hormones. Helps with PCOS Acne and excess hair

I’d avoid Therapie like the plague.

I’m in Ireland where they started and have the majority of their branches, and have heard horror stories- from both customers and staff.
