Dyeing merino wool jumper. Any tips?

I have lovely wool jumper in light grey (which is an awful colour on me!) and with a little yellow staining around the edges which is still there after a gentle wash.

I'm thinking of dyeing it - is this likely to work? I know the stitching can be an issue - do all brands use polyester, or just cheaper ones? I'm a bit clueless!

Any tips from experienced dyers would be welcome.

I bought it from a charity shop last year - it would have been an utter bargain if I wore it!

Ime everyone uses polyester thread so dye it a colour that won’t look too bad with light grey (maybe a dark grey?)
And make sure you use a dye that will work on wool eg an acid dye like Rit. (Read the instructions, basically.)

The other thing is avoiding felting: no sudden temperature changes (don’t plunge it suddenly into hot water or into cold once it’s hot) and don’t agitate it. Be very gentle.

I love dyeing! So satisfying.

Thank you @TheCountessofFitzdotterel! I was wondering about a burgundy or dark green but yes, dark drey might be a safer bet for my first time!

I've just been reading that they dye sometimes comes out lighter on wool - would more dye fix this?

I'm feeling quite cautious as it really is a nice jumper! 🤣

I dyed a lighter blue merino jumper navy with dylon. Came out great. I tend to run it on 30 even if they say 40.
