Does the tretinoin stinging stop?

I've been using tret for a month now. First week had no negative effects. Second week a bit of stinging. Noq have very stingy skin. I'm on a low dose and use the sandwich method. It's not very painful just really quite stingy for about 30 mins after using. Does this tend to go away? My skin actually looks really good and minimal flakiness. Just the tingling i want to go away as it makes it hard to fall asleep!

18 months on, I get the tingle still but for not as long

Why continue to put something on your face that stings?

The "beauty" industry makes me feel so annoyed for women!

I’m with her ^ I don’t use products in my skin that cause sensitivity no matter how in vogue they are.

TheOGCCL · 13/10/2024 09:17

Yes it does. You could try a lower strength or not every night if it carries on. ^ They are right that it shouldn’t be uncomfortable.

Because I have painful acne around my mouth and on my forehead. I know it's cosmetic and isn't going to harm me but I've had enough of it.

Could you lower the dose to minimise stinging?

GettingStuffed · 13/10/2024 10:42

Reduce the use to once or twice a week. Stop using the sandwich method as the second layer of moisturiser pushes the other layers into your skin. My tret stings if there's any trace of moisture on my skin.

Lentilweaver · 13/10/2024 10:44

Reduce use. Are you using sunscreen? It is great for acne- completely sorted out mine- so I would continue.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 13/10/2024 10:48

How often are you using it OP? maybe reduce the frequency for a while, it really is a bit of trial and error with tretinoin. Also because its autumn and our skin is generally drier this time of year (because of central heating) it's going to be a bit worse.

Also, some people are a bit more sensitive to it. Perhaps you could switch to adapelene/differin as your concern is mainly acne. As for as I'm aware it is less irritating than tretinoin.

What moisturiser are you using? Have you tried without? The only time I've ever had stinging was when I've 'sandwiched' with Cerave moisturiser. I'm on a Tret Facebook group, and there's a lot of us that experienced the same with Cerave for some reason. Now I've switched moisturiser I have no stinging. When i use Tret alone there is never any stinging. Maybe try using no moisturiser or a different one to the one you normally use to check

Lentilweaver · 13/10/2024 10:58

I use Olay and only use Tret twice a week as my skin gets drier in winter. I also dont use any serums or scrubs. Just tret, moisturiser and sunscreen.
