Rough skin on face

My face feels so dry it's rough to the touch. Glycolic acid and moisturising helps a bit, but not that much. Paula's Choice exfoliator doesn't seem to help at all.

Can anyone suggest a product or treatment?

Have you tried cerave facewash for rough skin? So good...

I switched to this and its really good. I do a micellar clense then the cerave face wash and then serum and moisturiser. I find drinking a lot of water really helps too. I use a daily microfolliant once a week and then do a serum face mask after. I find I need to be really consistent or it just comes straight back.

Ah thank you @Cherryicesonice I'm not sure I can do whiff of burger 😂

I bought Revolution Pro Miracle Cream for the rare occasion my skin gets really dry or just when I feel I want to moisture it a bit more for its own sake.

So last night I used Boots future renew serum followed by the miracle cream

Night before that was retinol - retirides 0.5

Night before that was Alpha H Liquid Gold which is strong glycolic acid but really good stuff

I alternate between these and a few other items I have but mainly these 3 on rotation

TossedSaladandSE · 14/10/2024 07:44

I use acid twice a week at the most and retinol only twice a week

I find that's enough to keep my wrinkles at bay and keep the texture of my skin lovely and smooth in my mid 50's

Change of seasons can really dry my skin out

On strange persistent dry patches I apply Vaseline over night which tends to work miracles more than any other product

Oil cleanser , muslin cloth , then glycolic acid and a moisturising face mask the ordinary do a brilliant one. Dont use any products that foam they will dry out your skin even more

Bio Oil dry skin gel. I leave it to sink in (whilst I clean my teeth) then moisturise.

I know it’s ridiculously pricey but the biggest thing that’s made a difference to the texture of my skin has been Sunday Riley’s Good Genes. Nothing else has come close. I use that and Medik8 crystal retinal 6 (alternate nights) and a very plain, cheap moisturiser. I presume Tret would probably help you and be worth a shot but I can’t personally recommend it as it makes my skin red, thin and crepey.. It’s always an experiment whatever you try.

OP have you had a recent thyroid test? I got dry, rough skin on my nose when my thyroid levels were low (hypothyroidism).

Seagall · 14/10/2024 07:58

This has reminded me to feel my face.

About a year ago I realised that my face felt really dry, almost hard. I bought a very exosnsive moisturiser but it didn't make much difference. Then it got very red and kept flushing. Then about 2 months ago I developed really nasty spots in the same area. Self diagnosed myself with roseacea and bought tea tree moisturiser and face tonic from Australian bodycare. The spots have gone, redness is almost completely gone and I've just felt my cheeks and they are soft!

I just use the tonic in the morning and evening followed by the erborian centalla cream. Use the face wash in the shower.

Try La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baumé B5+

Could it be Keratosis Pilaris? Ameliorate might be worth a look.

No. I have that on my legs and I find rich moisturisers and oils work better than AHAs for it.

I've always suspected I'm hypothyroid, but my test results are never 'enough' if you see what I mean.
