a coat?

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/04/2008 09:54

Pashmina...elegantly tied around neck keeps you very toasty in cold mornings and can just be stuffed in bag when you leave work and its warm...

Or, given our fickle climate...emigrate to warmer and more consistent climes....

notwavingjustironing · 23/04/2008 09:55

I keep a nice pair of flip flops in my desk drawer in case the weather suddenly turns tropical and the knee length boots I wore to work begin to look foolish. Needless to say I don't get them out very often...

foxinsocks · 23/04/2008 09:55

oh I have this now..is v annoying.

I am a big fan of cardigans worn under jacket of suit on the way to work then strip them off for later

have seen lots of folk in those armless jersey things (do you call them tank tops here...can't remember)

2 coats perhaps?? Warm one in the morning then stick in in car boot/back of chair/wherever and light jacket to come home in.

We had a memo last year (work in NHS) that heating would be turned Right Down in winter and we should dress accordingly was colder inside than out.

Lots of "cheaper" work trousers have a lot of polyester type fabric in them. They are thin and freezing in the morning, and hot and sweaty in the afternoons I find.

I rarely wear skirts at work due to the tights issue.

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/04/2008 09:57

Or....don't work at all

yes trousers far easier

need to get some new linen ones for work now that I'm thinking about it (last year's pair already dead from wearing too much)

linen trews good in summer for work

Cappuccino · 23/04/2008 09:58

lolol at that link cod

are they suggesting that if you go out in a seethrough blouse onto a cold afternoon and you have forgotten your bra, a small narrow scarf will do the trick?

onepieceoflollipop · 23/04/2008 09:59

Ah but I work in an NHS office and visit people at home and also have meetings at the hospital. So I would go from office (around 17 deg) to hospital (25 or more I imagine) and then peoples' houses - anything from zero to 30 degrees!!

I have to do layering, thankfully I never work more than 3 days in a row so I don't need dozens of outfits/combinations.

SixSpotBurnet · 23/04/2008 09:59

yes, agree about linen trousers, am wearing some today although it tipped down with rain this morning

onepieceoflollipop · 23/04/2008 09:59

Yes linen good for temp control but a pig to iron - need a fresh pair of trousers every day.

Cappuccino · 23/04/2008 10:00

I do have a long-sleeved vest (thermal ) which I wear underneath a short-sleeved French Conn. dress

looks fine not fancy dress

foxinsocks · 23/04/2008 10:03

oh would never iron every day...I just hang them up straight after washing. Thing with linen is that if you commute, they look all creased by the time you arrive anyway so it doesn't really matter if you iron or not in the first place.

Schools always far too hot imo. I have an image of you having to strip down every afternoon (ds's teacher has to do this as their classroom gets the sun - it is BAKING in there and she always ends up in just a T-shirt and trews by the time you pick up!)

kids will be all sleepy in the afternoon...you will have to plan inspiring afternoon sessions to keep yourself awake!

My dds's school is like that too. South-facing classrooms & boiling hot. Tis a shame as they all look out onto green fields, but the teachers have the blinds pulled down all day to try and stem the greenhouse effect.
