Hi,

So I've always had a lot of hair, which has always been quite difficult to manage, but with a bit of attention, I could get it looking pretty good and actually, I always felt I was quite blessed.

About 10 years a go, I became aneamic and lost loads of hair. Problem was, I didn't know that's what it was for quite a while, so didn't address the issue until I'd already lost a lot. Started taking iron tablets, still do, and felt a lot better, but my hair loss continued, albeit at a slightly slower pace.

So now it's possibly half the thickness, no volume, super coarse and over the past month or so, has become super dry! I haven't had any bleach on it for months and months, but I do get a root touch up for my ever increasing greys (👍) every 8 weeks or so.

I always have an Olaplex treatment at the hairdressers, use really good hair products at home, take collagen, have a healthy diet - lots of veg, nuts, very little super processed food now, heat protection spray, hair oils, have turned the heat right down on my hairdryer, but it still looks awful 😔

It's particularly thin now at the top - more on one side than the other weirdly, so it's that delightful combination of flat at the roots and big and frizzy at the bottom. Think clown 😳☹️

I'm 40, so could be linked to hormones and possibly the peri menopause.

Please, any advice? It's getting me down, probably more than it should, but still.

Any miracle products I haven't tried?..

Advice will be much appreciated!

TIA

I find nothing works better than olive oil or melted coconut oil for moisturising. Once washed it can still be a bit heavy but nice and moisturised after the second wash.

I know lots of people swear by Moroccan oil / Argan oil but I haven’t tried them.

I've found washing and conditioning with organic products has really benefiited my hair.

Reflecting, I think some products strip the hairs natural oil out and then we put in more product to make up for it.

The organic products don't strip the hair. The natural oils are keeping it healthy, smooth and shiny without adding more chemicals.

Try co-washing. Also try Watermans products. And a regular deep conditioning treatment overnight.

Thanks for the replies so far.

@vincettenoir I do actually use Moroccan Oil and quite like it, but it's not doing what it used to do.

@AvaJae whenever I've tried more natural products, my hair just doesn't feel clean or properly hydrated. Although nothing seems to be working right now.

@Squirrelsnut co washing sounds a bit strange to me. Doesn't your hair just feel permanently greasy and unclean?..

Products wont help- you need to address the root cause behind it (pardon the pun!). If there is an issue internally, all the products in the world wont fix it and you'll spend a fortune on stuff and it wont do anything.

  1. Iron levels- how are they now?
  2. Thyroid - low thyroid can cause hair to become dry and brittle (I had this at age 40, never had any issues with thyroid before - since taking levothyroxine my hair has grown back)
  3. Hormone levels - can cause hair loss
  4. Vitamin B/D - important for hair growth

Ive been using Young Again from Kevin Murphy, its amazing. My hairdresser said that some people use it as a moisturisor on their face too!

I use the plumping products from Kevin Murphy too, I used to have lots of very fine hair, now I have very little, fine hair!! Quite thin at the back, its a bit better as time has gone on, a combination of gastric surgery and peri menopause thinned it out good and proper. Its now looking much much better but not how it used to be many years ago.

No, co-washing is great for frizzy hair. I always use silicone free conditioners to do it though. Your hair feels clean and soft.

Is it the Olaplex? Big court action going on.

I use this hair care range. Expensive but it only takes a small amount of (smoothing or frequent use) shampoo and conditioner. I only need to wash my hair every five days.

Is it the Olaplex? Big court action going on.

Recent Developments in Olaplex Lawsuits
By June 2023, the proposed Olaplex class action lawsuit had grown to over 100 named plaintiffs. However, U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner ruled that the plaintiffs’ claims were too different from one another to be covered in a class action lawsuit.
One of the main purposes of class action lawsuits is to consolidate court proceedings for plaintiffs with similar claims. For example, if an auto manufacturer installs a faulty part on its vehicles, people who have been injured due to that part failing might be able to bring a class action lawsuit. The way the lawsuit is structured, anyone (not just the named plaintiffs) who was injured due to that faulty part can receive a portion of the settlement.

However, in the Olaplex case, there were people who had very different experiences with Olaplex, and there were a number of different reasons proposed. For example, some people experienced hair loss or hair breakage. Others have experienced contact dermatitis. There are also a number of different products included in the lawsuit.
The judge in this case determined that there is not enough similarity between the claims to justify a class action lawsuit. He dismissed the claims of all plaintiffs aside from the first-named plaintiff, Michelle Albahae. Albahae, in turn, voluntarily dismissed her case without prejudice.
