Best place to get decent priced jeans that aren't going to make me cry

As in the size 12s are actually size 8 and I need a size 16.

I'm 38 and haven't worn jeans in 10 years but I've lost weight and feel ready to try again but remember the trauma they gave me!

I've just got a couple of decent, reasonably flattering pairs from Primark. Cheap as chips at £14 each, and the denim's pretty good quality.

Let's just say the sizing is....generous and flattering 🤔

The last pair of Primark jeans I bought I had to go up a size, probably because I bloat.

If you're not sure re sizing it might be worth measuring your actual waist with a tape measure, and buying jeans from a shop that sell by waist size rather than dress size. Levi's and Abercrombie definitely both do this (although are on the more £ side if you are still losing weight) presumably others too, and it makes the whole process much less painful.

It will vary a bit with cut/style - eg I wear mainly 29 but also have some 28 and 30 and I am a 10/12 dress size - but you can generally eyeball it once you get the hang of it. Abercrombie also have the "curve love" range which is useful if (like me!) you are generous of arse.

Uniqlo-sizing is on waist and leg rather than dress size. Great value for the quality you get and their stuff washes really well

Try Gap.

I tentatively came on here thinking of recommending the M&S Siennas, worried I'd look silly in a field of cool recommendations. But it seems like they're loved pretty much universally! So another vote for them - they're comfy, cheap and wash well.

M&S. I can generally go down a size with theirs.

Hope you all dont mind me jumping in. I am so fed up with my skinny jeans/jegging and am after a straight leg jean with pref a high waste. Would anyone know a pair you could recommend?

At the risk of sounding stupid is waist like the smallest bit? Like above your belly button?

Because I have a huge tummy and I think whatever my waist measured at I wouldn't be able to stuff my belly in that!

I fund the waist measurement so random though as many jeans don't actually go to the waist. Mid rise don't for example. Also if someone carries their weight on their waist they may have a 32inch waist but have narrower hips and slim thighs. So getting a 32 when the jeans don't even reach the waist will mean they are just too big

I'm about a 27in but I am finding in many jeans that I'm a 6 or 8 (24-26). I'm not a 6. I'm closer to a big 8 small 10

outforawalkbiatch · 08/10/2024 15:03

I like the M&S magic jeans and I'm a 16/18

That's a fair point! I tend to wear jeans which do sit at my waist, and also have a massive bum/hips, so I hadn't thought of that. Maybe ignore me, OP! (I think generally a 10 is a 28 waist and a 12 is a 30 waist, 14 32 and so on, which I assume influences the rest of the garment's cut/fit?)

lindyloo57 · 08/10/2024 17:03

I'm between a 10 and a 12, my problem is my waist is a 12 my hips are a 10 so always have problem with jeans I must have about 7 pairs on ebay to sell, but I just brought from marks a pair of high rise slim bootcut, £39.50 they fit perfectly in the 10 there's nice amount of stretch so the waist isn't too tight for me, I might go buy another pair the fit is so good.
