Advice - light chemical peel?

I would be grateful for advice from my fellow MN-ers!

As I get further into middle age, my skin is increasingly rough and 'dirty' looking. I have acne scars and am prone to outbreaks of acne, cystic acne and whiteheads.

I'm thinking of getting a 'light' chemical peel as I've read that that can help someone with skin like mine. But I'm nervous - anything that peels my skin sounds potentially scary, and I have also read that it can cause pigmentation issues in those with darker skin. My skin is olive / dark olive - I'm a 'spicy white' person lol.

I'd be so grateful for advice/thoughts from anyone here with experience, both good and bad - I want to know what I'm getting into if I go ahead. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have used different peels at home over the years, AHA and mandelic, different concentrations.

For the pain and inconvenience, I would rather go for dermarolling, particularly if you have scars, want a deeper skin renewal and to avoid skin pigmentation issues.

Both will probably make you break out at the beginning though.
