I have heinous legs. Please advise.

Until now my solution has been to live in trousers or floor swishing skirts.

Is there an alternative? (It's okay if the answer is no.)

If there is an alternative, is it to fix the legs or to buy clever clothes?

Summer-centric answers appreciated.

in what way heinous ? mine are veinous !

BroccoliSpears · 22/04/2008 18:31

Lol - not veinous.

Big. Unshapely. Out of proportion with the rest of me. Freckled. Moley. Scarred. Pale to the point of translucency. Dry.

I find a line skirts to below the knee with wedge sandals can make a large calf look slimmer.

maidamess · 22/04/2008 18:33

Moisturise,exfoliate, gentle self tan.

Yes to swishy skirts, and wide legged summer trousers. Theres not many of us have legs that are perfect. Wear something amazing on your top half, divert the eye, or stun with a low cleavage!

HuwEdwards · 22/04/2008 18:33

Do you fake tan them? De-fuzz them? Moisturise them? Luuuurve them?

NomDePlume · 22/04/2008 18:34

exfoliate

moisturise

a teeny bit of self tan ?

A bit of colour and moisturisation go a long way to improve things, I find.

maidamess · 22/04/2008 18:36

And yes to wedge heels, reasonably low cut so they don't shorten your leg too much. No ankle strap shoes!

MadameCh0let · 22/04/2008 18:38

You have to suffer like the rest of us. Wax, false tan, exfoliate, moisturise.

For the veins, treat yourself to a few days in hospital and bring a good book and a magazine. You'd enjoy the break!!

Ettenna · 22/04/2008 18:46

I feel your pain; your legs sound like mine AND I've been genetically cursed with varicose veins!!! I haven't exposed my legs for decades.

HOWEVER I have a similarly-legged pal (no veins, though) who happily wears shorter skirts and cocktail dresses and the like. She doesn't perceive her legs to be awful and so doesn't feel inhibited by them. No-one seems to notice/care about their chunkiness, either. I think 'tood and confidence go a very long way when it comes to body stuff.

BroccoliSpears · 22/04/2008 19:54

Right. so.

Exfoliate: With a brush? A scrub? Every day?

Moisturise: I do, I do, and will continue to do so.

Tan: Eek. Last time I tried I got orange knees. Just shins or whole legs?

Below knee skirt and some not too high wedges. Can do (despite palpitations at the thought of exposing calves). Anyone care to link to examples of flattering skirts / wedges?

And some 'tude.

I can do this.

Broccoli, you can try some tinted moisturiser or leg cosmetics if you are afraid of fake tan, it washes off, so you have to do it every day. No 7 do a stocking cream, Pretty Polly do a whole load, and lots of brand do wash off tanners. You should be able to get most of them in a large Boots.

newgirl · 22/04/2008 20:05

great shoes with a small stacked heel so eveyone is looking at your feet admiringly

painted toe nails/professional pedicure? im all for distraction me!

MadameCh0let · 22/04/2008 20:06

I got this pot of sea salt in lemon oil from Tesco. It was only about 6 euro, so £4??? It is the best exfoliator I've tried.

Johnson&Johnson do a really good gentle tan. Like a gradual build up for body. You would have to use it four days running to notice a difference, so use it every day instead of a moisturiser.

Agree about the tood.

brrrrmmmm · 23/04/2008 12:00

Use kitchen salt with olive oil on dry legs then shower off (do it all in the shower to avoid floor disaster) then moisturise with anything - do this once a week and be amazed! Get your legs nice and moisturised-up before attempting fake tan, to avoid patchy accidents.
