What makes you smell nice

OK, I dabble in perfume and body spray (Calvin Klein Eternity, body shop jasmine type things). But I don't wear much routinely. I would like to smell fragrant - either fresh and citrusy or calm like Rose or something. Some kind of body spray, perfume or essential oil. What do you use, how often do you reapply, does it stay fragrant?

Hmm, I wonder if the Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt in the body creme would work? Could carry and refresh I imagine. These are great thank you

when I was getting married I had a free session at our local Jo Malone store where they helped me pick out a scent - it was lovely! Arm and hand massage with various scents etc. Not sure they do it generally but you could always pretend you’re getting married and sign up!!

Layering definitely helps, I'm a bit OTT but usually get that I smell nice rather than oh what perfume are you wearing if that makes sense

I use bar soap to wash with then a scented shower gel, body scrub twice a week, then oil mixed into body lotion or a body cream
Antiperspirant obviously! Then perfume

Overtheatlantic · 05/10/2024 20:25

Freshly showered and a light perfume . Penhaligons Halfeti is my choice.

Champneys Calm Body Balm smells amazing on my skin for hours and hours. I use it after every bath or shower.

I wear perfume every day (eau du parfum, not toilette) just applied once a day in the morning but I always seem to get asked what perfume I'm wearing and complemented when I'm wearing La Vie Est Belle.

Oh and roll on deodorant seems to last much longer on me than the spray type!

Edited

Actually I think you're on to something there - I always wear a EDP too and I think it makes a huge difference.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/10/2024 20:28

Eau de Parfum in the morning.
Everything else is pretty much unscented.
I bought a bottle of Gucci's Guilty today.

Retrievemysanity · 05/10/2024 20:30

I asked a colleague what she was wearing about 5 years ago as she smelt amazing. It was Michael Kors Sexy Amber. I got some the next day and I get compliments on it all the time. Also, randomly Palmers Coco butter handcream smells really nice and chocolatey and I get compliments on that too.

Runskiyoga · 05/10/2024 20:31

All so interesting and inspiring, following and trying to wait before ordering lots impulsively. I use bar soap so if I could tie one in with some of these options that would be lovely. And now I want a hand and arm massage with my lovely fragrance too. Will be back to follow with interest, thank you

I ask nice smelling people -

excuse me, your fragrance is really nice, would you mind telling me what you are wearing.

people seem really flattered

FrostFlowers2025 · 05/10/2024 21:25

A shower

GettingStuffed · 05/10/2024 21:26

I have a surprisingly large collection of perfumes but they're packed away somewhere for a house move. I've still got a few out and depending on how I'm feeling it's either Katy Perry Killer Queen which is DGS favourite and he'll wear it too, J Lo (I think) one and LK Bennett Signature.

PlumPeony · 05/10/2024 21:30

Ouai St Barts, it's hair and body mist, quite summery fresh

EducatingArti · 05/10/2024 21:39

Can I make a plea to those of you who wear perfume. Please don't overdo it. Many fragrances set me off with asthma and this can be really unpleasant, especially if on a crowded bus/train or at a concert/play or anywhere I can't move away.

I've had to move to a completely different part of a church in a service I go to as the lady I was sitting near wears perfume that sets me off wheezing

I actually love fragrances and things that smell nice ( cinnamon and gingery soaps and citrus scents in particular) so it isn't that I don't want people to enjoy perfumes. It is just really tricky when it makes me ill.

Please keep it subtle and "barely there" to anyone who isn't very intimately close to you.

OvaHere · 05/10/2024 22:21

I really like Rituals Sakura. I have the hair and body spray in that.

Runskiyoga · 06/10/2024 08:28

I hear you @EducatingArti I can't be around reed diffusers myself

I already use Ouai shampoos, and I like the look of that hair and body mist

Clinique Aromatics. The yellow one. Only the shower gel and body lotion though, not the perfume. The perfume is way too much but the other 2 are sublime. When I use them both, I literally fancy myself all day!!!

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 06/10/2024 09:01

Perfume wise I wear Luna by Penhanligons and that has rose in as one of the base notes, often get compliments and one of my besties has now adopted it as her perfume too as she loved it so much!

Runskiyoga · 06/10/2024 12:24

I bought the Rituals Mehr Body Cream, which is a more intense perfumed fragrance than I am used to, but I am using it in small doses and also using an orange spice cinnamon soap bar, which is similar notes.
I also bought the Ouai Hair and Body Spray, which smells exactly like the serum the hairdresser uses which I LOVE. So using that more for day to day. Not sure how long it stays.

La Vie est Belle is gorgeous but my new favourite is Portrait of a Lady.
I get lots of comments and it lasts all day.

MonkeyTennis34 · 11/10/2024 11:15

I also love Penhaligons Luna and Elizabethan Rose (?) but they have no longevity on me.

MoneyAndPercentages · 11/10/2024 11:26

I've used ALL SORTS of perfumes and never had a comment about it, but recently I've started using the very viral Lush 'Super Milk' hair spray and I get so many compliments on a daily basis 😂 I've started spritzing it all over!

JerkintheMerkin · 11/10/2024 11:44

Calyx Originally by Prescriptives gets a lot of compliments. I use Astral on my skin. My daughter says I smell of baby powder - dunno if that's a good thing or not though Confused
