Everyday make up

I'm in my mid-thirties and grew up with a mother that was completely uninterested in make up/hair styles etc. I've tried over the years to teach myself but still feel like I'm so behind the curve when it comes to good make up, techniques etc.

However, I'm also just doing the same make up everyday (when I actually wear it - currently not). I don't know what I'm doing half the time or what products I should be using. I don't suit lipstick as I always just end up looking too "done". I have a quite uneven skin tone so I need skin tint/foundation (yet to find a good one that doen't cost a bomb and actually suits my skin). My skin is on the drier side and I have quite round face. I prefer creams to powders. I never use a concealer but wonder if I need one for my under eyes?!

What are your go to make up routines for everyday make up?

So I really love the Erborian cc cream. Just melts into my skin and removes all the redness. It looks like my skin but better. I use the shade clair and I'm warm/neutral toned. Cooler toned people find it too orange I think. Then I use an eyebrow pencil in the same shade as my eyebrows and fill in any sparse bits. I always curl my lashes and as they are quite long, it's usually enough. I put on some mascara if I want a bit more impact. Then for lips, Clinique black honey is my favourite, a quick swipe and done (sometimes use it in combo with the pillow talk lip liner which I love) and I love the colour on me. I love tinted lip balms and also like Bobbi brown tinted balm in bare raspberry or nars afterglow balm in dolce vita. Rarely if I'm feeling to wear a blush, glossier cloud paint is good or benefit dandelion which is subtle but pretty. This gives me a nice overall look without feeling like I'm wearing a lot. If you have dry skin (I do too) then a good hydrating skincare routine will help your make up look better.

If you have a Space Nk nearby, I'd recommend you go to one and they will advise you on what's best for your skin and your needs.
For day to day, I wear:

  • Trinny London bff de-stress tinted serum
  • Nars blush
  • Laura mercier matte eye shadow (the one in stick)
  • Nars light reflecting eye brightener
  • Nars concealer
When I go the office or for lunch/dinner, I swap the tinted serum for an hourglass foundation

I love Origins tinted moisturiser. It’s one colour but seems to adapt, even everything out and I always look like I have no makeup on but younger and prettier 😆

OP, are you me?! I'm the exact same.

My eldest has just started school and it's given me the kick up the bum to try and present myself better (at coffee meet ups and kids parties, for example).

However, I'm clueless.

I've just bought a few best sellers from Cult Beauty and I'm hoping they look OK.

I've also always worn my hair up as its frizzy, but would love to learn to blow dry it or to find a product that works... maybe one day!

The ILIA Skin Rewind complexion stick is my favourite to improve my overall texture/blur out blemishes. I rub the stick onto the back of my hand to warm the product up and then use a clean finger to press it into points on my face (I don’t cover my entire face in it). I also have it in 1 shade lighter and press that into my under eyes. Other than that I just use a Refy gel to brush my eyes brows into place and lip balm. Blush is really big right now but I don’t think it does anything for me.

I use the ILIA face milk as part of my skin care also, and wear sun cream religiously all year.
