Black tie event - would you wear trousers?

Just wondering if you got an invite to a black tie event, whether, as a woman, you might wear an outfit that included trousers rather than a dress?

I'm thinking along the lines of a dressy jumpsuit like this or a two piece outfit like this - and I'm wondering if they would be suitable for a black tie event? I really don't enjoy or feel comfortable wearing dresses and haven't worn a dress in about 4 years and avoid wearing them where possible.

I have statement jewellery but does black tie always have to mean wearing a ball gown or dress, or could something like what I've suggested in my links work?

I've received further information on this event and it's a black tie ball. Does that change things? I'm hoping that I can still wear some form of trousers to it.

if you feel it has to be a dress but dont want one how about something like this

You could whip the skirt off halfway through, a la Bucks Fizz!

Yes.
I love the first.

Unfortunately I don't have £200/$200 or anything close to spend on a new Bucks Fizz-esque outfit so what I linked in my initial post is similar to what I already have in my wardrobe. I just wanted to find out if wearing trousers or an outfit similar to what is in the links I have, would be suitable to a black tie ball.

I'd love to have something like the Bucks Fizz-esque outfit. It actually reminds me very much of an outfit that I saw when I was browsing the internet looking for wedding dresses back in the day. Can't remember the designer but there was a jumpsuit and an overskirt and it was very 'me' but it was tres expensive so I didn't get it.

It's fine to wear either outfit to a ball though most women will be in floor length dresses. I personally wear leggings or cycling shorts under dresses as I find I get thigh rub otherwise.

I should add that the suggestions in my original post are similar to what I have in my wardrobe not identical so if you didn't like the JJ's House outfit that's ok - I have something similar but along those lines but again, it's not everyone's cup of tea but I like it and was asking if it would be acceptable to wear to a black tie ball.

Also, as I normally wear a simple gold chain and stud earrings, so for me a sparkly necklace and matching earrings along with shoes that would work with either of the similar outfits (and a flat pair of shoes for changing into for dancing) and an evening bag I picked out in TK Maxx recently are my accessories.

Will you feel uncomfortable if you're out of step with most other attendees? If not, then they're unlikely to refuse you entry.

Very wide legged evening trousers might be a compromise. Your jewellery is what everyone else will be wearing.
