Inexpensive autumnal fragrances?

For a little cold weather treat? I love fresh, aquatic, green and somewhat floral fragrances, very summery. I fancy something a touch warmer, though I'm not into spiced cinnamon and heavy chypre type fragrances, they give me a headache. Any suggestions to try? I'm talking little treat budget, like a next dupe or something along those lines. Next have always been good for inexpensive perfumes you can just chuck in a handbag. Not bought any for ages so not sure what's available. I used to like one in a red bottle, something like rouge absolut? Not sure if even that would be too heavy now. I like to keep it light. Not a hint of 'evening' scent.

A lot of people mention one by M&S - called Warm. I have smelt it and it is very nice. in the Apothekory (sorry I know that is wrongly spelled!) range

I love kenzo flower and amour. These might be good. Has anyone tried m & s soft oud? This could be more autumnal but can't find much in the way of reviews.

Next cashmere used to be good, don't know if they still do it. Warm but not strong. I tried M&S Pink Pepper, too sweet, but didn't last anyway.

Tempted to blind buy M&S Soft Oud or red berries and rose. Has anyone tried either of these?

Actually, this oud thing everyone seems to be into...is it a very heavy rich scent, with lots of depth? I was walking through a big shopping centre and a very strong heavy scent was being pumped out from somewhere, like a hollister store on steroids. It was like walking through a thunder cloud to me, so cloying and sweet, thick and heavy all at the same time, like it would swallow you up. Is that what oud is? I can see why people might like it, it's a mysterious scent but give me fresh cut grass over that any day, I'd rather a scent floats on the breeze.
Am I even close to what oud is? If so, I'll give Soft Oud a swerve.

I don’t like Oud tbh I find it an unappealing smell but I love M and S neroli sea salt which may be something you could try in the small bottle

SurpriseSparDay · 30/09/2024 17:01

Surely a sample of something original and amazing would cost no more than a full bottle of something ‘duplicated’?

Why not have a browse through

Bloom Perfume

and order a few samples? (They also do various sample subscriptions so you could receive unfamiliar things every month, for instance.)

I think the M&S Apothecary scents would be worth a look, OP. I’m a fully paid up member of the “friendly perfumista” thread, with very expensive tastes, and I really rate these - TikTok was wild for them last year too. I have the Warmth perfume and for about £10 it’s great, and we rotate through the different handwashes.

I suspect you might find oud a bit heavy, although it doesn’t smell like Hollister. The neroli/sea salt mentioned by pp is really lovely but to me is a summery, fresh, beachy vibe.

Not the cheapest but not too expensive imo if you get the 10ml purse spray ( around £28) is floral street ylang ylang espresso... it has a wonderful scent reminiscent of coffee but not too overpowering or overly floral, I love it but scent is very personal.

I do love a good autumn scent. May be out of your price range but autumn vibes by maison margiela or dark rum by malin and goetz are my other faves.

It's a le labo santal dupe.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I really would like to keep it to a little bottle of something from next or m&s though, I don't do spending megabucks on perfume and I see these little bottles as a treat I can chuck in a handbag, a little pick me up like an expensive bubble bath or whatever.

I think maybe something red berries based might hit the target. I've been searching for 'dupes' from the above shops but some are outdated now. A thread of dupes would be good!

As I say, I quite like soft cosy scents for autumn like kenzo amour or flower, also jlo glow. I've also liked next rouge absolue and gold for a richer scent. Nothing chypre or heavy. I just fancy trying something new. I'll end up down a rabbit hole with fragrantica working out what notes I like!

A high street 'dupe' thread would be good!

Maybe have a look in Zara - they have some nice perfumes

hollyhocksinthegarden · 03/10/2024 21:36

Zara’s Golden Decade ( v similar to YSL Libre ) is very easy to wear and gets compliments. Good for all seasons.
