Is this brand good? Some of the stuff looks pretty nice.

I live in an EU country and have just clocked they deliver there.

I think I must have been quite choosy with what I bought, but it's all been good including shoes and boots. I've even had compliments.
Tu is good, but again not bought much.
The Matalan clothes are probably OK too.

Thank you.

I was eyeing this jacket, or this one or this one as they look quite good quality, I thought. You'd pay the same at Next?

I don't know if it's there I'm currently in Europe but this leads me to Asda Global Direct. Prices are in Euros - but they look to me to be more expensive than I would expect in my local store . Normally Asda clothing would be cheaper than Next.

I've had some good things from there in the past. Didn't like a lot of their summer stuff as it was quite thick polyester but I've seen some new in dresses which I like .

Coats and jackets are normally quite thin/ not particularly warm .

Henleylady · 28/09/2024 20:15

It is Walmart clothes. Not worth shipping to the EU for. You can do better.

Twinklestarhere · 28/09/2024 20:47

I like George for kids clothes I find the sizes are good and fit my kids well.

mumofaboynow · 28/09/2024 08:23

I think they're absolutely brilliant for most kids clothes quality (don't like all of their styles but the ones I do come up lovely in the wash!)

The adult stuff seems to shrink much easier and be made of cheaper materials Confused

Not in my case!
Reasonably careful and I don’t own a tumble dryer

Silvertulips · 28/09/2024 21:51

George worked as a designer at next - hence the similarities

Links didn’t work for me, just straight to UK home page, maybe you could post a screenshot?

It's about the same level as Matalan, although I have to say Matalan stuff seems better quality and they have a huge range.

I have recently bought quite a few items from Matalan. Love their women's blouses in stock just now. Spent a fortune there a few weeks ago!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 29/09/2024 14:37

Hit and miss, but always worth a look for trend items, where you might want to update without spending silly money. I have had more success with t-shirts and shirts from the men's range, for both DH and myself, as the fabric / weight of fabric and construction is often better. DH is fussy, so says something about the t-shirts which came from their exclusive range. I did buy the black leather (yep, real leather) mary janes from their womens exclusive range and am pleased with those for under £30!!! I find Tu / Sainsburys is good and have just bought a 100% cotton denim blouse from there, which is a brilliant cut, with some very good detailing, and fabric is a good weight for £20.

This thread has prompted me to check George out as it’s been a while since I looked. I’ve got a few things in my basket now.

I’ve bought Christmas jumpers over the years that I’ve always been happy with.
kids school uniforms always come from George.
I even bought a pair of school shoes this year which I wouldn’t normally do.
I also bought a summer dress which I really liked this year.

For adult clothing, jeans & T-shirts for DH are usually good, along with underwear. For myself it’s usually hit and miss with quality & fit. I’ve never bought coats or bras from there.

The only issue I ever had with kids clothing was the toddler leggings were always really tight even on my tiny skinny children.

Deathraystare · 30/09/2024 08:56

Bought some very decent zip up smart trousers from them at £7.50. Bargain! Went on to buying other stuff too!

Beaverbridge · 30/09/2024 09:03

Kids stuff is excellent esp their PJ, s. Lovely material plus up to date prints if kids like Disney films etc. I used to buy their blouses and plain trousers when I worked, did the job.

Salmoney · 30/09/2024 09:04

I think their clothes are very hit and miss, I've had some items that I've been able to keep for years and they're still in good shape whereas others haven't lasted even one wash very well. If they allow free/cheap retutns you can normally tell when you feel it in person if its going to last. I've had a pair of £10 Chelsea boots for about 5 years now and they are still going strong despite being worn most days in autumn & winter. I really like their bedding too, reasonably priced, soft, washes well.

JessCurrie · 25/10/2024 11:24

I've had mixed experiences with george.kids clothing, but overall I've been pleasantly surprised. Their children's school uniforms are a lifesaver - affordable and durable enough to last the year, even with my kids constant attempts to destroy them lol. For myself, I've found some great basics like cotton tshirts and leggings that held up well over time, even with the odd sick stain. I do agree its important to check the fabric quality before buying, as some items can be a bit flimsy.

Sunday5 · 25/10/2024 11:36

I always zoom in on the coats, have bought several over the years and never been disappointed.

I got some George snowsuits that will be used for our 3rd child now he fits into them.

ForPearlViper · 25/10/2024 16:06

I've had some decent T shirts and sports leggings from Asda/George. However, I wouldn't think it was worth ordering from another country. If you can't take a proper look at an item in the store when you're shopping, take it back easily instore and are paying shipping on top it would be a no from me.

I don't think I'd make a point of going in if it were just a fashion store but for when, you are in there for something else and need a pair of socks or something, it's fine.

I don't think George Davies, the guy who set up Next and then did George for Asda, has been involved with the George brand for many years.

theemmadilemma · 25/10/2024 16:19

Jackets like that, fashion stuff you probably won't be wearing next year, it's great for that stuff.

It's not high quality, or meant to last at that price point. But it does the job.

TossedSaladandSE · 25/10/2024 18:11

As with all Supermarket brands there are some gems

I'm currently wearing a pair of comfy stretch jersey trousers around the house which I've had for a few years

A lot of their stuff is polyester so check the material

Wtafdidido · 25/10/2024 22:26

Have a look at Dunnes Stores. Ships internationally and way better quality. The kids wear last like no other! Really good value for money

MadBlack · 25/10/2024 22:46

Next clothes are not as good as they used to be. The branded clothes they sell for other companies are suspect to me too. Sizings are way off.
