Where to find Clothes for tall (and solid!) 11year old?

My DD is 11, and 5'5". She's also pretty solid (so more like an adult than tall and skinny). I'm desperately looking for some winter clothes for her, but I'm struggling as kids ranges are too small, and women's clothes aren't really age appropriate. Any ideas for clothes that come up in adult sizes but will still be nice for a tween?

What size is she? If she’s a woman’s size 4-6 then teen ranges at H&M, New Look etc will still fit. If she’s bigger than this then you’ll need to go for women’s clothes.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 24/09/2024 11:45

Primark might do things that fit, my 5'6 dd size 10 ladies fits into their age 14-15 clothes.

SparkyBlue · 24/09/2024 11:46

I'd also say H&M for teen clothes and also new look . My DD is similar and the same age but not as tall . We just look in the adult sections quite a lot now to be honest

StainlessSeal · 24/09/2024 11:48

Thanks. She's more like a women's 12! She has ASD and can only wear certain materials, which makes it so much harder.

New look teen are quite good.
They're quite generous sizes too, my DD is about 5'1" and a ladies 6/8 and fits an age 11-12 in new look - I think they go up to 13-14 or even 14-15

Primark also have lots of basics in the ladies section that would be fine for an 11 year old

StainlessSeal · 24/09/2024 11:57

Gah, I can't get her to go shopping, which rules out Primark, annoyingly (assuming they still don't do online). New Look is a good shout - I didn't realise they were still going!

Next upper teen ranges are the same size as smaller womens ranges. At that age I got jeans and basics from there, DD has needed the tall range for a long time but if your DD is smaller they have the petite range and jeans are jeans - obviously cheaper in the sale. Top wise quirky tee shirts from Qwertee ( t-shirts are cheap and great quality, have lasted years. Just watch out for shipping and any customs charges) or tops to match her most recent fad from Etsy, Rugby tops from England Rugby - but that's fairly specific.

Another recommendation for new look’s 9-15 range, have also had some success in H&M teen range though more for sports clothes.

Uniqlo, H&M

You mention she has ASD - do you think therefore she wants more childish clothing? I ask because most of the 11 year old girls around here are wearing adult type clothes rather than t-shirts with butterflies and kittens that they were all obsessed with just a few years ago. DD is 9 and the shift started happening in the last few months. But I appreciate it can be hard I have a friend with a similar aged DD with ASD and she still wants to wear the sort of style of dress that younger children wear, but sizing is a problem (I think she's had luck with Fatface and White Stuff on this in the past).

In which case I think places like New Look (teen or adults), H&M (adult), Zara (adult - their kids stuff comes up small after age about 11 I find) could work with a little careful curating.

Also, depending on what she likes, check out some of the sports brands for shorts/t-shirts/hoodies?

Singleandproud · 24/09/2024 14:39

@MrSeptember tell your friend to look at Mountain warehouse for dresses for the summer, they do great adult size t-shirt style dresses that are just like the ones DD wore when younger (they even have pockets)

MrSeptember · 24/09/2024 14:43

Ooh, thanks. I will. She's always on the lookout for clothes for her DD. Not helped because her DD will find something she likes and then insist on wearing it even though she's now had it for 3 years, it's too small, and has holes! Grin

Singleandproud · 24/09/2024 14:46

@MrSeptember They have that style every year with different prints and they are often in the sale.

StainlessSeal · 24/09/2024 14:55

So it's not like she wants clothes that are much younger. I guess I'm looking for simple t-shirt dresses etc, rather than the tea dresses or dresses with slits etc! Basically we can't do buttons or zips. She needs things very comfortable and baggy and oversized.

The Fatface one I posted above also comes in plain black and another colour? Would that work?

If you want trousers that are more than just trackies, perhaps look at "jazz trousers" or dance leggings? They're very comfortable, no zips etc, but also not just baggie trackies? I also have a pair of these (recommended on MN) and I think they come in a range of colours. V v comfortable but just that little bit closer to proper clothes.

Singleandproud · 24/09/2024 15:19

M&S jersey trousers might be a winner, they come in different lengths and cuts, DD used to love the school version in Primary but they do adult sized ones too, about £17 each and they just pull on. I have trousers from Uniqlo that pull on too.

T-shirt dresses the Mountain Warehouse ones I mentioned above in the Orchid style - all the prints left now are a bit too old but they do plain ones or other more appropriate patterns at the beginning of the season.

RomeoMcFlourish · 24/09/2024 15:22

We get our DD who is a similar build lots of clothes from Saltrock. She says it’s all very comfy!
