Roaccutane and dry lips

What do roaccutane users do for their lips? I've been applying vaseline continuously, but my lips are still dry, and I'd like some colour as well.
I've been taking roaccutane for a couple of weeks now - does it get any better?

When I was on Roaccutane, the dermatologist said that the best thing to use was Carmex. I used it constantly and it did help. No colour to it, though there are different flavours (which helps).

You'll probably find that the dryness doesn't really ease during the treatment period - my suggestions would be for Carmex for lips, Vasaline for nostrils, Aveeno cream for body and occasional oatmeal baths to help.

Hey, I was on roaccutane for 4 months. The nurse in my clinic recommended blistex, the cheap one. It was my saving grace! I still find tubes of it kicking around now 5 years later 🙈 you can get it in savers and I think home bargains. It does leave a bit of a white cast to your lips though so be weary if you're applying without a mirror. It was the only thing that worked! Also used aveeno for the atrocious dry skin, making sure it was the lotion as it's thinner. Added a link below 😊

Bepanthen. You get a massive tube for a few quid.

In my experience it only got worse! Your hair might start to get really dry as well so a conditioning leave in spray helps. I also had to buy eye drops and some Replens for downstairs as well!

By far the best thing I found was using the Aquaphor healing ointment by Eucerin. I tried absolutely everything before hand - Vaseline didn’t touch the sides, nor did any of the lanolin lip balms that are often recommended. I used to buy Aquaphor in the massive tubs and decant it into small balm pots - I still use it occasionally and find it very good for burns too.

Yes!!!! Here to recommend this.

Aquaphor. Not the stuff for lips. The normal stuff. Use it on lips nostrils anywhere dry.

The best thing I found at the time was Lush Lip Service. Not sure if they still make it.

Carmex and a very moisturising Lancôme lipstick and skin smoothing cream by dermalogica

Really worthwhile though so stick with it. 30 years on I am still amazed how it worked wish I'd had it at 14 rather than 34

Whatever I could get my hands on, constantly! I've heard some people used nipple cream.

Shinyandnew1 · 20/09/2024 21:10

My DD is on it now and has gone through loads of different ones and settled on using Lansinoh nipple cream-it’s the best thing she’s found.

It’s about £8/9 for a massive tube which lasts ages.

goestheweasel · 20/09/2024 21:11

Also just to add, I was on 60mg for 4 months to start with, but I really struggled with the symptoms, so I dropped down to 40mg and did it over 6 months instead. I read that doing a smaller dose over a longer period can be more successful, all I know is it was much more manageable and I've been acne free for 7+ years.

You can take antihistamines on Roaccutane which can help with dry and itchy skin

Littletreefrog · 20/09/2024 21:19

My son used the vaseline lip stuff almost constantly he couldn't go anywhere without it in his pocket. He's now finished the roccutane and it has been worth it, still trying to wean him off his vaseline addiction.

The dermatologist recommended this for my son too when he was on roaccutane. He had severely chapped, cracked lips and dryness in and around his nostrils. It was very good.

Yes I used it EVERYWHERE that was an issue

Thanks everyone. I'll go into town later and see what I can find.
