SPF in winter

As per title, I wear facial SPF 50 all year round normally......but wondering if this is unnecessary in the winter months? I tend to use facial moisturiser containing SPF 20 anyway, so this would probably suffice for skin protection? Keen to avoid the aging effect of sun damage and interested to hear what others use.

Only if I'm going out without any foundation on

SwordBilledHummingbird · 20/09/2024 11:11

I think a facial moisturiser with a lower SPF is fine in winter. I might wear a higher one if I'm actually going to be outside and exposed all day but for the small amount of exposure on a typical winter day I don't worry about it. Vitamin D deficiency is also a problem for many people in the winter months!

Do you use anything with retinol in? If so then sunscreen is a must

ThePoshUns · 20/09/2024 11:16

I've just started on Tret so will be using factor 50 daily.

sunshinechaser · 20/09/2024 11:26

I use tretinoin nightly so I've been in the way of using a separate spf 50 daily for years. I just view it as another layer of nice moisture for my skin. My foundation also has spf 50 and I stay in Scotland so winter sun is quite scarce!
However my skin looks good for my age (50) so I'm happy to continue.

Thistooshallpass24 · 20/09/2024 12:47

Spf 50 I use azelaic acid and salicylic acid and have a melasma (never been a sun person)

sparklyglitterball · 20/09/2024 13:29

@ForSaleChesterDraws that's a point, I use the ordinary retinol serum most nights. So probably should stick with factor 50 separately all year round.

Do you mean to save money?

I use SPF 50 all year round as standard.

sparklyglitterball · 20/09/2024 16:02

@TheOGCCL yes I guess to save money, and yet another product to layer on! I think I'll just wear it all year round too, and skip it on the winter days where I'm literally at work or indoors all day.

I use moisturiser with SPF 50 in winter Separate SPF 50 from about March to September and if outside all day the rest of the year. No retinols or foundation.

MorrisZapp · 20/09/2024 16:23

Don't use any, all year round.

Only in summer
