Does this dress fit?

I ordered a dress on a whim, I don't usually wear them. It's woolen. Does it fit or should I stick to trousers? I actually like the cut but not sure if it's the right size, although I think a larger size might not fit the shoulders?

I think it's more your posture OP, you look like you're slouching but I think it would be fine if you pulled your shoulders back and stood taller.

I’ve got a very similar figure to yours and avoid dresses in this style as they’re not flattering on the tummy - nothing clingy is. You need something with a defined waist in a different material or something floaty/boho that skims your stomach entirely.

Or you can just say fuck it, I like it so who cares! But the fact you’re posting for opinions here suggests your unsure. Only wear things that make you feel good.

Also I find wool a bugger to launder and it makes me sweat so it would be a no for me.

@TheMarzipanDildo (love your username!) Yeah I'm surprised by that too. Where is the person shopping that the models are anywhere near 5'3"? Except petite ranges but that's a given. Most places show models around 5'6 to 5'8". And yes at 5'1" everything is usually too long on me too, even some petite items like jeans!

Miss Average UK is 5’3?! I’m 5’2 and everything is way too long on me! Confused

And all the catalogue models are 5’6 and up when I check.

Yep, that's our official height in 2021! I didn't bother looking for heights by age range - I expect younger is taller on average. I think I remember that kitchen units are designed for a 5'5" woman (not a man, natch 🙄) I wish clothing companies would give vertical measurements!

@Garlictest it's that dress!

Oh no! I did wonder. Well, darn ... it could be worth trying the next size up. It looks like a lovely item, and quite a bargain in the sale.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/09/2024 21:06

I think the problem is that you are standing still in it in an unnatural way. If you were moving about, the dress would move with your body and it would look fine.

Coconutter24 · 20/09/2024 21:26

In the body it fits you nice, I couldn’t figure out what it was that made it not 100%, at first I thought the sleeves but I think it’s actually the length of the dress. It needs to be slightly longer for the style to work (I did read your tall which confirms to me it’s definitely the length)

MaJoady · 20/09/2024 21:30

Better posture and a bra that fits would do wonders I think OP, if that's not too rude.

Woollen dresses tend to cling more than you'd imagine, so the underlying scaffolding is much more important

unsync · 20/09/2024 21:33

It's not right on the bust. Wherever there are wrinkles or puckers in fabric, it indicates a fit issue. The trick is understanding what that issue is.

Princessfluffy · 21/09/2024 15:35

The sleeves are wrinkled at the elbow and at the wrist and are definitely too long.

Princessfluffy · 21/09/2024 15:36

Can we see a full length pic including your legs and feet?

GogAndMagog · 21/09/2024 15:36

It's unremarkable. Doesn't flatter you at all.

A v neck would look better.

Back21970 · 21/09/2024 15:51

I wouldn’t wear it in black but I like it - I think it’s quite a nice fit and would look great in winter with tights and boots.

A bigger size would drown you, I reckon anyway but I do like fitted styles.

You’ve a great figure, knitted dresses are generally quite unforgiving - I have several from Phase Eight and always wear control top tights under them.
