Dyson Airwrap opinions

Do you have an Airwrap, and if so what do you make of it?
(I think it's on second generation now).
I don't but I'm curious about it.

I do like mine, but IMO it's not worth the extortionate price

Namechangeforcheese · 16/09/2024 20:23

I've bought it twice and returned it twice. It's a reasonable hairdryer but the curls don't hold in my fine, soft hair.

theurbanpigeon · 16/09/2024 20:23

I love mine, it's the only hair dryer I have been able to use (have thin frizzy hair). To be frank I don’t use most of the attachments, but the blowdry brush is definitely a cut above the cheaper babylisa type ones. Is it 5x better... another question. I do love it though :)

FawnFrenchieMum · 16/09/2024 20:25

I recommend the Shark flexstyle or smooth style depending on which attachments you will use. Just as good as Dyson but half the price.

MamaBanana12 · 16/09/2024 20:31

I have the shark version too. Which is good. Worth the price. Makes lovely curls on my long thick hair!

Namechanger385u4p · 16/09/2024 20:38

I love my dyson, i dont kmow if it's really worth £400 but it doesn't fry my hair like my curler did, i would buy again (i got mine where boots had a points deal so for 470 i got £70 of points)

The babyliss one killed my hair, but the dyson takes a lot of research and practise to get the most out of it

But it doesn't rotate like the Babyliss?

ConstitutionHill · 16/09/2024 20:39

Does the Shark have a rotating drying brush?

Namechanger385u4p · 16/09/2024 20:43

No it doesnt rotate, if you are good with a hairdryer and round brush then it's not necessary, but i have tried for years with the brush and couod never get salon results

No not rotating

WaneyEdge · 16/09/2024 20:52

I didn’t rate it. The hairdryer is good though, I also liked the brush attachment. Apparently it’s not meant to give curls, more like a bouncy blow dry. Still didn’t work well, I found your hair has to be the EXACT correct ratio of dry/damp, otherwise it doesn’t work. It takes bloody ages too.

I preferred the Curl Secret or bendy rollers for curls. I now have a pixie and have the normal full size Dyson dryer, which is great.

BlossomToLeaves · 16/09/2024 21:21

There's a new GHD gadget called the Duet Blowdry (not the same as Duet Style) that is supposed to be hair dryer and heated brush in one - not just a dryer brush but the barrel and bristles are also heated. The reviews are quite mixed though and it sounds heavy. But it might be an alternative to consider.

I want something that will make my hair dry, smooth, with big curls - I have thick, curly, frizzy hair that is none of those. Not sure I can justify the GHD one just yet though.

I tried the Airwrap and ended up selling it, because I couldn't get any curls to stay with it. I have a Dyson dryer but it seems to cause frizz these days. I also have a Drybar dryer brush but the bristles wear out very quickly. The rotating one seem to tangle or bristles wear out as well. So I'm still searching too.

Namechanger385u4p · 16/09/2024 21:59

To create curls, i found that curling, then pinning then sleeping overnight did the trick, plus lots of mousse!

Pinktruffle · 16/09/2024 22:43

I was bought my air wrap as a gift. I have never really got the hang of using the curlers but use all the other tools that come with it and it has made all my other hair tools obsolete. It saves me so much time in getting ready - I have two toddlers so time is something I really don't have. If I was to advise anyone else I would say get the hairdryer and don't splash out on the air wrap, I managed just as good curls with the round brush attachment from the hairdryer

Cherryana · 16/09/2024 22:47

I love mine. It makes my hair look ‘done’ and it is so quick. I dry it and then curl it and then brush it out so it’s bouncy.

Are you talking about the Dyson hair dryer, and if so, where did you get the round brush? The original doesn't seem to come with one, and there are a variety of after-market ones but they have mixed reviews about how well they stay on and how hot they get etc. Do you recommend a particular one?

There are also some after market attachments that make the hair dryer into a sort of air-wrap thing, but again the reviews say they can get very hot and don't always stay on well.

I have the airwrap and the round brush came with it, however if I was to buy again, I would just get the hairdryer and buy the round brush attachment. You can buy it directly from Dyson

It's expensive but at least you know it'll work and has warranty

I was disappointed with it and returned it. It took forever to style my hair even when I started at 90% dry. I had been hoping for a quick-fix daily solution to frizz.

I love the idea of the directional drying brush and wish they’d make one that was a lot hotter and more powerful.

DuckTales1234 · 17/09/2024 14:19

I love mine too. I wouldn't pay full price, though. I got mine refurbished from Dysons website, it comes with warranty and it's just like a new one, but cheaper. I also got a discount on top and it ended up costing half the price of a brand new one (£250). At that price I think it was worth every penny!

Ah, those brushes are only compatible with the Airwrap multistyle/dryer, rather than the actual original dryer. I only have the actual dryer (which is a bit bigger than the dryer that comes with the Airwrap).

Ladybughoping · 17/09/2024 15:00

I had the Dyson air wrap and used it daily for several years before it died. Replaced it with the shark version for half the price, and genuinely can’t tell the difference between the results from them. That said, I have extensions in, and neither does a thing if I just have natural hair.

Green777 · 17/09/2024 15:08

Rarely gets used now in my house but yes way overpriced. Always end up using a muchhh cheaper appliance!
